But we are more likely to score on the rebound if it starts in Mackays hands rather than Kelly.
This m-i-g-h-t be right --- do you have any extra info/stats, please?
I think the problem might be that the oppo are more likely to score on the turnover if it starts in Mackay's hands rather than Kelly. I like Mackay who reminds me of Tyson Edwards build- and personality-wise, but Dmac's good work is often nullified when he butchers the ball. I just don't know that Dmac's zero nett effect is good enough :(.

You're probably right. Ironic, isn't it? He played 130-odd games straight, moves over here, does a hamstring . Gibson must have damn near ripped his hammie off the bone to still be 2-3 weeks away.
I thought he'd be playing on a wing, or as a tagger. Still might be the latter, on a needs basis, and yes, is good for our depth.
His disposal was a bit dodgy after a full preseason too. Imagine what 10 weeks on the sideline would do to it. Yep sorry Gibbo, but it’s through the SANFL for you old timer

How long before we see Pat Wilson get a gig?

out: Dmac inj
in: Wilson
Our injury list peaked with the Sydney game. Pyke was forced to change his team structure, playing an extra tall (Otten), when Hampton pulled up sore after training on the Thursday. If Wilson was going to get a gig, then surely that was his opportunity? Pyke is incredibly rigid when it comes to his team structure - we know this from history. The fact that Pyke preferred to change his team structure, rather than select Wilson, says that this is where the line currently sits - the line dividing the players Pyke is ready/willing to select, and those he is not.

Adelaide has already used 29 players this year, including 4 debutants. We only used 31 last year, and 29 in 2016. I think it's unlikely we'll see too many other new players selected this year.

Wilson's best bet is probably our R18 game against Brisbane, noting that they used the 2017 Brisbane game as an opportunity to debut Gallucci. Carlton are just as weak as Brisbane, but we already have a lot of players returning from injury, and they probably won't want to make any additional (unforced) changes.

For the record, here are the players we haven't used so far this year, who I think are above the line: Smith, Gibson, Brouch, Keath, O'Brien. Wilson & Signorello are probably the first two players below the line.

He really does seem to lack lateral movement coming off the back half. While Milera will get the ball and evade, before putting himself in best position to deliver, Dmac tends to run in a straight line come hell or high water.

Results in him not being properly aligned with his target and he just ends up lobbing a ball forward. I'm not calling for Dmac to be dropped just yet, but if/when we get a full list back, it is hard to find a place for him in the 22.

Dmac has never had much lateral movement. The most he has is a veer to his right. He can't stop, hold up and look laterally either by hand or foot. It's something that he just doesn't or can't do. It's just how he plays.

DMAC is a linebreaker though, that's the role he plays, he's not a distributor like Milera or Laird. We need both those types of players coming out of the half back line to make our forward structure's work. Without that blend we are too slow coming out of defense and our matchup's get covered.

They are both good options albeit they provide different options. My concern is what we do when someone like Dustin Martin gets on top of us. Brown doesn't handle the bigger bodied forwards as well as he does then nippy smalls and we can hardly send Laird, Milera or Mackay to him. That where Kelly is most valuable.
This is a good point, not neccesarily in the case of Martin himself, but in similar situations. Purely because Richmond have a small forward line.
That resting forward midfielder can be a Fyfe, Dangerfield, Ablett, Parker, Heeney, Zieball etc etc

If we have Kelly take that forward midfielder, it allows Doedee and Hartigan to concentrate on their respective opponents or intercept game.

Teams would likely try to isolate Milera and Dmac as much as possible, and neither if them are great defenders by any stretch. If Dmac was Brodie Smith, it may be worth it, but both Milera and Dmac in the same defensive unit IMO leaves us open to being exposed in the marking and tight ground ball contest.

It is an interesting conundrum, but I don't think Dmac gives us enough effectual drive out of the defensive 50 to warrant being and extra rebounder. It'll work against sub par opposition, but if our defense is getting hammered, we can't afford to weak defensive links.

I hope the game result is the same. that was a great win at Subiaco.

And I still remember that game as having the silliest, most ridiculous score review ever. Luckily the game result went the right way as it was umpiring incompetence extraordinaire that night.
It was a great comeback win for the Crows. They blanked the Eagles in the 4th quarter like 30-0 to win the game.

Does anyone have any suggestions for places to eat/drink at before the game?

Brent Reilly was similar. Either straight through or not at all - that's why he was caught HTB so often.
A basic stop and prop or selling the dummy to your preferred side is not that difficult. There are many SANFL or even amateur league guys who do it well so I can't understand how an AFL 'line breaker' can't even get close.

Wow, that's great! :thumbsu:
Is your fiancee a Canuck (hint: instead of saying 'owt' for 'out' she says 'oot' ;))? Make sure she eats a meat pie and/or some apricot slice :D. I hope she enjoys the game :rainbow:.

No, she's originally from Adelaide. If anything, she'll be the one showing me the ropes!

Because DMAC isn't a loose man in defense. He's usually manning up on an AFL quality small/med forward. When he gets the ball its usually at full pace with a guy whose job it is to provide forward pressure hot on his hammer. If he stops and props he risks giving away a free kick inside forward 50.

Plus SANFL and Amateur intensity is not even close to AFL intensity. Chalk and cheese!

Yet we've managed to play good footy without him. He's not crucial to our success, he's a good fringe player when he's attacking the contest at pace as he did on Saturday and has for most of this year. His disposal by foot is questionable, too often choosing a contest or just to empty space regardless of who's advantage it's to. He played a couple of games last year where he ran hard and actually spotted up targets, hasn't done that this year though. Right now he deserves his spot, but he might struggle if Kelly is selected. Betts for Poholke is a given. If Kelly comes in then who goes out? None of the wingmen, stoppage rotation or anyone playing ahead of the ball. If he's right and Tex isn't, we might see a different forward structure trialled where Gov plays more of a key forward role and Dmac runs through a couple of different rotations.

I have a funny feeling Harry Dear might get an opportunity this week. Looked good in the silver ball rubbish.

AFLX will never and should never be used to judge a player's form

The biggest issue I have noticed with DMAC is when he takes a mark and doesn't play on straight away he always goes back on his mark and takes his full time before he then just kicks long down the line. He very rarely moves the ball quickly to a short option 15-20m away to keep the momentum going. I think it comes down to the fact that he knows his limitations and doesn't trust himself with the short kicks. This hesitation often gives the opposition time to push numbers back and set up their zone and then the kick down the line is always to a contest.
