Surprised at the Milera criticism? He was one of few who read the ball in the air I thought. Couple of important intercepts and got there to be 3rd up at a couple of crucial times. Handled it cleanly at ground level while many others were fumbly.
He directly or indirectly gave away approx 4-5 goals in total, with a combination of inept tackling technique, and complete lack of intensity. He was caught holding the ball at least twice (one of which led to a goal) and gave away a stupid high fend-off free (the subsequent inside 50 led to that flukey Nash snap goal).

There was one instance where he read the ball very nicely in flight and dropped the simple chest intercept mark too, leading to him handballing to a teammate who was then under unnecessary pressure and coughed it up.

He is in the side mainly to utilise his precision kicking skills and be an attacking half back. He had 4 kicks for the entire match. When you consider how poorly he defended and tackled, that’s pretty damn bad from where I sit.

Having said all of that, if all of those things happened minus the pathetic attempts to tackle, I wouldn’t even be talking about it. That was the standout for me - opponents grabbing the ball and Milera putting in some half-assed amateur C grade “attempt” to tackle them. There was one example of this to the left of screen which allowed WM’s opponent to dish an easy handball off to another player who streamed into an open goal. There is nobody else in our current 22 with a tackling technique that poor - even Sholl who prior to 2023 was really bad at this has made clear strides in that regard.

Are we worse if Nankervis replaces Milera? I don’t think so as I don’t see what Milera provides.

Probably. Should we do it and cop that hit? Probably. I have a lot of time for Nank as a footballer and he has a good shot at being an answer in the middle.

Pathetic attempts to tackle...put that in bold underlined size 46 font.

Please Nicks I have one request...

Send Ben Keays to try tag Daicos. Maybe it fails but don't let him run wild without at least trying. Sick of seeing sides back their system whilst letting him get 30 or 40 possessions with ease.

Make him earn it, put physicality on him like he hasn't yet felt.

Six intercept possessions (Hinge our highest with 7) in a game where for whatever reason Doedee, Butts and Murray didn't offer much in that regard.

Went at 91%

One missed tackle of our team's 50 for the game, one dropped mark of our 50 for the game...

Harsh I reckon. Gets a meh C Grading from me

I think this is pretty much a given. Keays to attempt to play a similar role on Daicos as he has played on Saad in the last 2 Carlton games.

Unfortunately for Ben, and for us, Nick Daicos is a future Brownlow Medallist, and Adam Saad is, well, not anything approaching that.

Yeah I don't know if it will work but it needs to be tried, even if Keays is told to forget anything but making Daicos fully accountable all night.

Ridiculous calls for RT to possibly be dropped, he learns absolutely nothing from going back to the SANFL.

A few weeks ago he was winning the game off his own boot against Port kicking 5. He is a 20 year old 202 cm player who has less than 35 games experience, he will have good and bad games and we just need to see it through.
I’d persist.
Someone just needs to tell him to take a breathe before trying to finesse a dinky little kick into the corridor every time he marks it. It undoes good work. Get TFT in long when you mark it on the wing!

This👍x💯

I dont want thilthorpe to be out of the side again unless its an injury. He just needs games and he IS a huge key part of our forward half for a very long time to come

Yep should be getting games experience, we never know when Tex may just start to fade so you'd rather have Thilthorpe gaining experience at top level now before that day comes.

The official stat keepers can say he had 1 missed tackle all they like (not sure if you’re quoting official stats but let’s say for argument’s sake that you are), there were a minimum of 5 occasions where his complete lack of intensity when performing a tackle and/or applying pressure allowed Hawks to dish the ball off relatively unhindered, when they wouldn’t have been able to do so if someone who actually cared was opposed to them.

Also, disposal efficiency is such a pointless stat. I drop a chest mark, i gather the ball off the ground and panic handball it to a teammate who is under pressure and my teammate then coughs it up, oh look at me, I’m going at 100%!

Or, I kick the ball 20m to a contest and it gets spoiled out of play - oh look I’m going at 100%!

I actually loved Milera’s game against Carlton and really thought he had turned a corner. Today was an untimely reminder that the guy tries when he feels like it.

If he wasn't on the contract he's on do you think he would be getting picked as often as he does? Highly unlikely. He should have the heat put on him to improve otherwise he's on the trade table irrespective of his contract. I can see GC or North being interested.

Absolutely ridiculous.

His contract has zero to do with it.

He plays because Nicks system relies on players with excellent attacking footskills, and keeping your head in traffic.

Milera played a 6 out of 10 game, after a few very good weeks. He's zero chance of being dropped

Yes and no. We have to make it work given his contract.

But he has been good, although he was poor yesterday but he wasn’t alone.

You need to watch him closely. He’s a liability. His defensive work is awful and he offers no attacking option either. Why is he in the team then?

The game was played on Hawthorn's terms which was why guys like him and Jones struggled.
