That first stat is a massive concern; but also a massive opportunity.

Rectify that without sacrificing too much defensively, and we'll be very well placed.
I disagree. It’s actually a positive. The most sustainable game plan is when you turn it over in your front half and get the majority of your scores starting from forward of centre. Early in the year most of our scores were starting from defensive 50 and it means you have to get through up to 18 opposition players without turning it over before scoring. It’s not sustainable.

It’s not that we don’t have the weapons or capability to score form defensive 50 chains but it should be the icing on the cake rather than the preferred score source.

I used to be a Rat fan, until I saw clearly how contact-averse he is. You cannot play AFL football well without bumping/tackling oppo players. It's like a pie with sauce. The sauce is not the whole meal, but the pie's not complete without it.
At one stage in the 2nd quarter vs PA, relative to your quote, he had the ball in the clear between the HB flank and wing, grandstand side. Under no pressure. He held the ball, ran, looked, did not bounce although he had clear air, picked his target, and ...
... kicked it smack out on the full, well wide. *slaps forehead* :drunk:
Clangers like that, eg when he kicks directly to an oppo defender are effort-drainers, momentum-breakers.
Every now and then he bobs up and kicks a bullet goal on that terrific left leg, but I won't mind if he's dropped.
Yeah, I know, won't happen.

If it's a good pie, you don't need the sauce 👍

People can get dropped and still fall into this category, in my original statement I even stated I thought DMAC would get supplanted at some point this year. And game count is not a part of the equation!

The question is "do these middling type players bring an intrinsic value too the side when they are in it?"

And if you want examples of good teams with these types of players it took me about 2 mins I found these guys who fit that statistical output.
Geelong: Lachie Henderson, Jade Kolojashnij
West Coast: Will Scoffield, Brad Sheppard, Jack Redden,
GWS: Nick Haynes, Zac Williams,
Hawthorn: Jarman Impey, Paul Puopolo
Adelaide: DMAC, Hartigan, Kelly, Brown, Knight

And these are just the names I recognize from 5 teams. And really that's the entire point, to the opposition fan you shouldn't really recognize these types of players, but regardless of talent they still need to be able to come in and contribute their role whenever called upon! For some thats every week, for others it might be 1 time a year!
**** me what an awful take this is

That’s the Gibbs of old , right now he’s not fit enough or have the appetite for a contest

Would be a high risk scenario , not sure we need to take it until he proves his appetite and commitment more on game day and on the track
Sometimes you have to challenge people to get the best out of them.
