Back to the chat room topic...

Had a look on vBulletin.org and I think we can do something.

Now it is a case of backing up, installing, testing, recovering, installing, testing and so on until it works.

This takes a block of time. Something I don't have for this purpose right now. Maybe some time in the future.

I know how to set one up. What system does Bigfooty run on?

I have no idea how you would integrate that with the VB database however.

How about you calm down the ego.

You have a disagreement with someone so you go and ban them. Did you send him an email like you sent me - something along the lines of, "I run this place, I am king d*ck, and if I don't like you, I can ban you".

Maybe you should ask yourself the question whether or not you would ban Otaku if he had that little confrontation with someone else? I think we all know what the answer is.

Slow down Bunsen. It is his site and we don't pay anything to use it so we are really his guests. And if I have guests in my home that are offensive I reserve the right to deal with them as I please. If two other guests want to trade insults then I may choose to ignore them if I'm not personaly involved.

You may respect people who behave like that. I don't. I don't think you could disagree that Otaku wouldn't have been booted if he had the exact same altercation with someone else. I thought the banning was childish - "Oh, such and such doesn't agree with me, so I'll boot him. That showed him". Ordinary.

Bunsen if you have an issue with Otaku's suspension please e-mail me about it. Attacking me because a user has been breaking the rules for an extended period of time and finally pushes his luck one step too far is really just shooting the messenger.

I can tell you that whereas some mods usually dissent from decisions to suspend or remove a user, at the moment I have had no mods disagree with this ruling.

If you want more information please contact me via the proper channel. Or contact Otaku and see if he'll share the contents of the e-mail I sent him.

Who cares... he's the administrator of this site; he owns this site. He can do whatever he wants. It all comes down to that, really.

It seems such a hard concept for some to understand. If you want a site to be just as you want it - make your own.
Otherwise, you put up with whatever annoys you or you don't.

If someone comes up with a good idea for this site, it will be adopted. If Bluey doesn't like your idea, bad luck.

Simple really.

Yeah a chat room would cut out the useless one liners or one sentence replies.

I used the old one a few times and there were some funny moments.

It's a good feature, but resources is as resources does. It will come back, but only when we are ready and able to bring it back.

If you see a good chat room that integrates with vBulletin don't hesitate to let me know.

There aren't really any good chat facilities to plug in to vBulletin... I've looked in the past...

Personally, I reckon an IRC channel should be created, and just use something simple like jIRC to have it on the site... shouldn't really need to integrate with the vBulletin userdb IMO...

It does need to be integrated. Otherwise we get the problem of users logging in under other user names to cause mischief.

Actually, I reckon a chat room would be a waste of time. There is MSN, Yahoo, and numerous other chat rooms for those who want to yak endlessly.

I find the "chatty" nature of the general boards pretty ok. I wasn't around for the real chat room and I only went in once. But I found that a bit of a 'class' system if you will. In other words, if you hadn't been around a while or didn't know anyone then you couldn't get a look in.

I have no idea what or how much bother it is to have the chat on the boards in certain threads but it has made it feel more inclusive I reckon.

We all keep each other pretty honest about kicking out the rubbish and one liner stuff if not necessary. It's getting to be a nice little community really.

lol I wouldn't enter an MSN chatroom if my life depended on it now. :p And with the various messengers and stuff, a lot of BigFooty users have each other added but there have been a few people who have hacked into others' messengers and stuff so I think some are a bit reluctant to give those details out to random people.

With the chat room, I never found anyone particularly snobby. Perhaps it depends on what time you're in there, but every time I went in there I found that everyone was happy to interact with everyone else, and I started talking to people I hadn't really known much about before which was good :) as well as being able to catch up with people I've met in real life or known for a long time.

It does get annoying if you open a thread and see it's been totally derailed by a couple of people having a good old chat that should be done in PM or e-mail or something. Threads like the Bar and Grill and that 1,000 posts thread are ones designed for that kind of chatter. :) That way if people don't want to read it, they don't have to.
