RULES FOR LADDER TOURNAMENT

1. I determined the initial ladder positions on 4 April 2020 (attached). New members of the Club are added below the lowest ranked active member (see 11.)

2. You may play up to 2 games at once; one against a player above you on the ladder and one against a player below you in the ladder.

3. You may challenge anyone who is one, two, three, four or five spots above you on the ladder. Challenges are issued on this thread by tagging the person who is being challenged and myself (Chipmunk). If you are challenged to a ladder game, and you are not already playing or being challenged by someone below you in the ladder, you must accept the challenge on this thread before the end of the 2nd day after the challenge (e.g. if you were challenged on a Monday, you have until end Wednesday to accept the invite.). Refusal to accept the challenge is treated as a loss.

4. Ladder games are set up using chess.com. Once the challenge is accepted on this thread, the person making the challenge will send an invite to their opponent. The person making the challenge plays White and the person being challenged plays Black. The time limit is 1 day, which means minimum 1 move a day. However it is generally expected that games will be completed within a week.

5. Members need to post the results of their matches to this thread and tag myself (Chipmunk). Live ladder updates will be processed in the order of thread post.

6. If the lower-ranked player wins, the lower-ranked player takes the higher-ranked player’s spot on the ladder, and the higher-ranked player moves down one spot.

7. If the higher-ranked player wins, there is no change in the players’ rankings.

8. If the game ends in a draw, the lower-ranked player takes the spot just below the higher-ranked player. Draws by agreement must be approved by myself.

9. After a ladder game is played, at least one of the players must play a ladder game against someone else before they are allowed to play each other again.

10. Appeals: if you feel your opponent is being unnecessarily slow (e.g. only playing 1 move a day), cheating by using outside assistance, or you have any other claims or queries, let me know. I shall rule on all matters and my decision will be final.

11. Active member: an active member plays at least one game a month. At the end of each month I will demote any players who have not played or have a game or challenge in progress in that month, and promote active members. I will also do this refresh at the end of Easter (13 April) as the tournament is just starting; this will increase the chance of active members being able to play each other.

PRIZES

1. BigFooty has kindly donated prizes during this period. The ladder will be taken after all challenges made up to and including 30 June 2020 have been completed.

2. The following prizes will be awarded based on position on the ladder after all challenges made up to and including 30 June 2020 have been completed:
1st: A medal and one year's premium Platinum membership
2nd: Gold membership
3rd: Gold membership

3. After this date, the ladder will continue for rankings, but there are no further prizes planned at present.

RULES FOR MONTHLY QUICK TOURNAMENT (FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH, 5PM)

1. I shall set up a tournament on chess.com and share the link.

2. One hour before the tournament begins (i.e. 4pm) an orange button "Join" will appear in the link. Competitors must press that button to join, before the tournament start time of 5pm.

3. There are 4 rounds, each game is 10 minutes per player.

4. The next game will start 5 seconds after the end of all of the games in the previous round.
