But i don't believe the history of the EFC should be blamed for this mess.
If worst case scenario happens, then everyone involved should be punished severely, but the club itself is not to blame

Yes, this is the moral hazard that the competition will have to bear. And I say, if this hypothetical comes about, then bring it on!

Because:-

1. Every club will think real hard before getting involved in this kind of stuff in future and a new realm of professionalism will pervade through all clubs in ensuring their own houses are continually in order,
2. The AFL will get off their a*se and put in a significant monitoring program so 1. is even less more likely to occur (they don't want to be 'devastated' again by a club),
3. The AFLPA will get off their a*se and put in a player management program to protect their players from potential reputation/financial discourse in future (making 1 harder to achieve).
4. The Sponsors will be so much more involved in ensuring 1 is in order before investing (these guys are the real elephant in the room),
5. The integrity of the game is maintained to a level that the general public expects it to be.
6. There is no compelling reason why the competition wil be destroyed, the AFL will have a financial hit for 2 years (see 2 Mr AFL and learn from it). I dare say over the long term the competition will be strengthened.
7. And it's about justice and ethics, not $

EFC, as an entity, have already received all the sanctions applicable at AFL level. The players and coaching staff are still in the cross-hairs, pending the outcome of the ASADA investigation/charges. The EFC will still be able to compete, albeit with different personnel in the roles, making them less competetive for the duration of any bans.

But your points, 1-7 inclusive, should be implemented regardless. Vlad was only about the $$$, here is hoping the new guard is about the ethics.

I don't think the EFC should be banned for 2 years.
The temp. guardians of the club should be shamed by the club, banned from sport, if anyone is found guilty of banned drugs.
The club itself is not to blame.

I was responding to another posters hypothetical if the club is banned for 2 years and what this would entail, not whether 2 years is a suitable or not punishment.
