in all honesty - just **** off.
Whats everyones beef with Connolly? He seems to be one of those charasmatic coaches much like Daniher and i think he could he could bring a lot to the club.
Im not saying that he should coach, but if he did i think that it could be a good thing for the club, as he knows how to handle the media and get hype. Obviosuly he can coach as he got Freo to the Prelim last year.

Charisma doesn't win matches. If you want a showman in the box then go out and hire Elton John to coach - personally I'd rather somebody who knows what they're doing.

same applies here. I saw Connolly speak at a Melbourne function, he basically bagged the hell out of Melbourne that day and gave the impression he thought everone in the room (it was a Melbourne sponsor function) were a bunch of w*nkers...Have not liked the guy since then

i hope someone important on the melbourne board reads the threads on here and realises that we dont want connolly!!
no-one wants him and if he is coach from 2008 onwards you can kiss the melbourne fottball club goodbye, coz our membership numbers will die (we are already 3rd or 4th lowest) and we will be lucky to even get 20 000 people to our games!!
connolly has only ever won 1 final....and he has failed with a list that should have won a premiership....all he knows how to do is take players frokm other teams and try create a team, but it doesnt work
we need someone with fresh ideas that can take a group of young players and win a premiership....thats all us melbourne supporters want .... A PREMIERSHIP!!! and connolly has no chance of ever coaching a premiership team....NEVER!!

cos hes a bit tubby and all he does in his media conference is tell jokes?What makes you think he doesn't have a bit of mongrel in him? Funny that there is a perception that he's soft on players, I'm not sure where this has originated from`
but thats just his media persona, behind the scenes he can deliver a spray as good as anyone
his problem is that he over thinks and over analyses the game and in turn comes up with elaborate game styles which ultimatley confuse his players and they lose all confidence
i have no doubt that if he sticks to the basics he will be a successful coach elsewhere
Connolly to Melbourne - what's not to like?
This is a Freo supporter's perspective, so I know a bit about Chris Connolly. Here are some reasons why I think Connolly would be a good coach for you guys.
1. He's an ex-player of yours.
2. He's from Victoria, seems to know a lot about Vic country footy.
3. He's an excellent salesman. Freo's membership has skyrocketed in the time he's been the coach. Seriously, it's gone from not much over 20,000 in 2001 to over 40, 000 now. The guy will invest a lot of energy into promoting your club, which given your low membership base might be a good idea.
4. He's experienced, but still young in coaching terms.
I know that Connolly (and Fremantle) are not well respected in Melbourne, but I think this is a mistake. Connolly has just been unlucky that Freo's bad year has co-incided with his contract running out. I would have thought Connolly and Melbourne would be a natural match. I can see from this board that many of you don't agree - care to explain why?

At the start of the year they were one of the most highly rated clubs but look at them now struggling in the latter half of the ladder. I think we should look at a fresh coach who has something to bring to the club.

I don't understand why this keeps getting brought up. The only people still left at the club from when he played are the supporters - how does having turned out for the club 20 years ago contribute to anything in 2008 and beyond?
And the whole 'salesman' thing is fine with a club in a two team town who are less than ten years old, but we're in an overcrowded market and pretty much every last drop has been squeezed out of our fanbase - and they've still proven to be fickle *****. The pattern is pretty clear - they jump on when we're winning and jump off when we're losing. Unless he goes around to people's houses and cracks their heads he can't help that.
It's not an Anti-Freo thing, we just don't want to start a new era that feels like the hangover of another club's "new era".

In a lot of way Melbourne and Freo mirror each other. Both have had good lists and been in a strong position win the flag but both have seemed to underachieve. Obviously therre are many things reasons for this but one clearly would be both the coaches. If we were toemploy Conolly the general feeling amongst the board is that we'd be replacing Daniher with pretty much a proto type!
