I am sick to death of readign posts sayign if Pelchen does this or that he is destroying the club etc, when are you people going to realise - that drafting trading etc is a teamn effort!!!!

You guys don't really think that he sits there on his own deciding who to trade /recruit etc!!!

So instead they sit around a table, they give him suggestions and then they have a vote, is that how it works.

He is head of recruiting/trading final decision lies with him.

Spot on :thumbsu:...some people think that sis all he does, consider this many people ask how we can afford our list? we can afford our list because of his models and structures of the footy department and that is where he is far better than the average bear....

Re: Chris Pelchin

Yep, at my work we have a HR manager who is "in charge" of all the hiring and firing etc across the business. But do you reckon she hires anyone without the go ahead of the individual department managers and the big bosses?

Fair point but at the meeting where the first question was, "Who should we target this trade week?" Whoever said "David Hale" needed a clip De Niro style.

Re: Chris Pelchin

The good news with Pelchen getting Hale is that regardless of the target he almost always seems to get his man every trade period.

The only one we haven't got in recent memory is Tarrant.

I wish we could swap Tarrant and Hale around though.

$400k pa for Hale....
I would have thought $400k for an elite outside midfielder would have been a better decision!

Stay tuned though...the Hawks have something else in the making !

Re: Chris Pelchin

For all you people that think the Chris has the final say, have s..t for brains. Clarko is the coach and Im sure he has the final say on which players he wants to coach.

And as someone else posted, Dew is a prime example. No one wanted it, but Clarko did and it ended up winning us a premiership.

If Clarko does not like the suggested trade, I can guarantee it WILL NOT happen.

Its not our list, its attitude. And WHEN we get that right......Look out!!!

Example, just have a look at our best 22 on paper and Collingwoods. We are all over them, but on the field they have the right attitude, hence why they won the 2010 premiership.

I truly believe that 2011 will be a good one for us, because if we have another 09, 10, then watch heads role, big time!!! The pressure is well and truly on now!!!!

ROK says hi.

I thought school holidays were over?

Re: Chris Pelchin

Pelchen is the boss not only of recruting but list management. I can guarantee you that Pelchen would have the final say on at least 99% of all trades and recruits. After all that is his job, as it is Clarko's job to coach the team along with his assistants.

Pelchen is the head boss who reports to the Board of HFC, under him are his dept managers, Graham Wright, Geoff Morris and Gary Buckenara. They would then have 25-30 recruiting scouts all around Aust reporting in weekly to them. I reckon HFC would spend in excess of 1mil on recruiting.

He is drafting for the Hawthorn FC future, the coach may only be about for x amount of years. Imagine if essendon had only drafted what Knights wanted and now he is gone!

There is no doubt that Clarko has his game style and plan and that Pelchen and his men would need to draft accordingly at times

Pelchen is the one who will have to answer to the board at all times, there is no doubt he would have copped flack from board level over the past few years in regards to the likes of Dowler and Thorp. I doubt he cops too much from the Coach.

Nail....head.

Clarko had his say on Dew - that was about it. He's too busy working on gameplan, etc..

I agree totally Tyler...Dew was the only one that Clarko had a true say on and recommendation made. Dew had a connection through Port Adelaide and Geoff Morris was the one more so than Clarko who counselled Dew into meeting the goals before draft re weight, fitness levels etc.

Re: Chris Pelchin

it does not, Clarko has the final say...you are incorrect

This is total and absolute nonsense.

Pelchen has absolute power of veto over any player movement on or off the list!

This has been stated publicly on many occasions if you had ever bothered to notice.

For all you people that think the Chris has the final say, have s..t for brains. Clarko is the coach and Im sure he has the final say on which players he wants to coach.

You are wrong and look pretty stupid yourself telling people who are completely correct that they have sh#t for brains.

If Pelchen decides to bend to the preference of Clako then that is Pelchens business but as he has total responsiblity for who is on and off the list then the buck stops with him.

Personally I would be surprised if they did not work collaboratively but Pelchen is independent of Clarko. It is rumoured that Clarko wants Pelchen to report to him, but the initial structure and responsibilties were established to prevent any coach from destroying in the list longer term, by ruthlessly persuing a top up policy for short term gain to save his position at the club.

However, given that both Pelchen and Clarko positions will be in doubt next year after another poor season, the current structure does not prevent both parties working together to waste as many draft picks as possible on doubtful players like Hale, in a vain effort to save their positions at the end of season 2011.

does the name Bret Thornton ring any bells...
I know, i know... Carlton wanted too much for him but Pelchen still couldn't get the deal done...

and dont forget the Ryan O'Keefe saga.
