Past Chris Yarran

A quote from today's HUN.

"Carlton will only trade Chris Yarran in the event of a sweetheart deal, not scared off by his free agency status next year. The theory is that even if Yarran did decide to walk Carlton is likely to be a bottom 6 side next year. It would mean they would accept an exceptional free agency compensation in the mould of Melbourne's James Frawley this year. He has a close relationship with coach John Barker , with the pair working weekly on turning Yarran into a team-first player with fewer brain fades."

In other words, clubs who think they can get him on the cheap can get lost.

So this was in the HUN in July. Why are people surprised now?

Did anybody notice that all of this Yarran playing like his is disinterested talk started on the 10th July? Who did we play that night? Richmond.

This article is over a month old and it referred to Barrett saying Tigers had met with Yarran 7 weeks ago. Whether Barrett originally indicated it 7 weeks prior or the Tigers approached him 7 weeks prior, I don't know.

Does this inexplicable lack of application he showed that night suggest he was approached that week? No wonder the club are miffed. It stinks.

Yarran only has himself and his manager to blame here. He's going to end up not playing in 2016 and getting paid chicken feed at Richmond from there on purely because he refused to entertain offers from other clubs and allow Carlton to create some competition for his services.

Richmond are living up to their onfield history off the field as well. The need to take note of what the perennially successful clubs are doing when it comes to building a top quality list. Court your player and go out and get them regardless of whether they are paying full price. What were Richmond thinking courting Yarran and then not being willing to pay for him. Yarran should take note, he's being royally screwed by Richmond here and he hasn't even arrived at the club yet!

Richmond or any club would be stoked to draft a Chris Yarran type with pick 12 in this years draft. Richmond could take a guaranteed ready to go player of this quality with pick 12 which could immediately take them the next step. Richmond aren't going to take the next steps without aggressive trading. They are a club that is still behaving like a rebuilding club because they have been rebuilding for so long they simply do not know how to be aggressive and fill the gaps on their list.

Hardwick is one failed campaign away from getting sacked. You would think that Richmond might show some interest in wanting to be a better side in 2016.

Sorry Chris, you and your manager spent all year screwing Carlton by effectively walking out and not having a go in round one then leaving early. You're screwing the club by restricting negotiations to just with Richmond who are pathetic and are effectively screwing you over now. Don't expect any favors from Carlton. You should have though about this when you signed an agreement to play with Carlton in 2016. Especially if this voids your contract and we don't have to pay you for this season. No match payments and a really low contract from the Tigers in 2017 because of this, prepare to lose a lot of money.
Isn't Yarran's manager good mates with Richmond's list manager guy Richardson? They are old school friends or something. Sounds like a little sweetheart deal organised between a couple of mates months. Only SOS being a a fly in the ointment by not playing along. Is Paul Connors doing the best for his client by only dealing with one club? Seems rotten to me.....

1.20pm: YARRAN UPDATE

The man of the moment Stephen Silvagni says the Blues are "here to talk" in regards to breaking the deadlock on the Chris Yarran to Richmond deal.

While he hasn't spoken to Yarran himself, he doesn't expect the half back to be prepared to sit out a season if a deal doesn't get done before 2pm tomorrow.

He didn't rule out the Tigers' current pick No.19 plus a sweetener getting the deal done and indicated a trade could still go through today.

However, we here at AFL.com.au believe it's unlikely a resolution will happen before tomorrow.

2.23pm: YARRAN WON'T SIT OUT

There was some suggestion on Wednesday that Chris Yarran could miss an entire season of football if the Blues - where he remains contracted for another 12 months - can't deal with the Tigers.

But it looks unlikely the 24-year-old will be forced into a position to do that, with the Blues moving closer to closing his move to Punt Road.

So was it confirmed SOS said an hour or two ago that we might accept 19 if there is a sweetener? Or was just ill reporting?

They implied SOS had said that but no quote.

I have no issue with SOS getting Yarran and Richmond to sit up and take notice.

We might do 19 and 52 to get extra points for SOSOS if we were really just trying to assert our authority but were okay with 19 in principle. Maybe we will ask for one of those fringe players they were trying to throw to us with 31. McBean or Astbury or someone. Interested in these steak knives.

Maybe we just stand firm on 12 and throw back a future pick. Say next year's 2nd from us for next year's 3rd from them or something.

Next year's 2nd rounder from us will be pick #19 or Pick #20. No deal.

Especially now that the Geelong pick is gone, our 2nd rounder for 2016 is a must keep.
