How has it taken this long for him to make a statement?! He can carry on about how the club has handled things, but hasn't handled it well either. Seriously, get on with it.

We will probably never know the full story, but I suspect an agreement has been made between him and the club around whatever issues he has and this would only have happened in the past 24 hours. There's no other reason it would have taken so long.

Fascinating this little circus has been. Goes to show for Petracca, if you speak up, try to explore your options and the AFL doesn't want you to, the media machine will drag you through the mud straight away and paint you as the villain.

Anyone recall a similar situation where a contracted marquee player was looking to go then had it shut down by the powers that be?

GAGF all you Opp supporters willing and wanting him to leave our club, and to not be fairly compensated. Many of you imposters wouldn’t want your marquee player to be sold by your club based on some internal club issues needing to be worked out and resolved. Back in your box jerks. Time to go ambulance chasing for another story for your own self-satisfaction and pleasure
Now it gives us 12 months to work on a deal for Christian to come home for season 2026.🙂

So is Clarry getting traded or Goodwin getting fired?
LMAO not even Adelaide would take the fat orange drug addict now.
He's stuck with us 😂

Goodwin would want a pretty good season next year. We're a rabble.

In fairness, you have to wonder how long Goodwin has. The culture at Melbourne is clearly stuffed.

Lot of similarities between him and Beveridge in terms of tenure (Beveridge took over in 2015, Goodwin 2017), both won a flag pretty early after long droughts (Beveridge in 2016, Goodwin 2020). Both guys have been afforded much more leeway due to premiership success (as they should) however expectations internally would be very high that they would need to win another flag each given the lists they have. Beveridge atleast made a Grand Final in 2020.

I'd predict for both if they slip hard in the next 2-3 years they will jump ship, don't see either sticking around for a rebuild.

It happens - he gets his body right will have another personal best year. Maybe tried too hard this year and pushed himself too far. he's still young mate.

Yeah, fair point. It's just worrying.

In 3 seasons he's missed 19 games due to injury, plus about 5 games (being subbed off due to injury). So let's say ~24 games in 3 seasons. A full season's worth of missed games due to injury.

He was never going to be allowed to go anywhere.

This thread just illustrates that the media make stuff up a lot and the public is gullible and swallow it.

I don't think it was made up though, I do think he wanted out of the place.
But when you have 5-years left on your contract at huge $$ & are 28 years old coming off a very serious injury.
the clubs your interested in going to don't have the capital to trade for you, & Melbourne don't want you to leave.
All this combination adds to it being too difficult.
