Re: Clay Beams

Thjen there’s the Twomey’s (4 of them), the Panhams, the Richardsons, the Murphys, the Turners, the Lees and the Leachs (all this without even mentioning the Clokes!)
But apart from all the above, Lockyer is probably right. Apart from the 2 Coventry and Collier greats, the 4 Roses, the 4 Twomeys, the 3 Shaw’s, the Panhams, the Richardsons, the Murphys, the Turners, the Lees and the Leachs, what have brother combos ever done for Collingwood?

BTW - If Clay really is that good, won't the Gold Coast snaffle him up. I can live with that - providing they leave his older brother alone!
Plus the Roccas

Clay Beams will be a handy pick up if he is being dubbed to play just like his brother.:thumbsu:

So now we're a bit closer to the draft and we know what picks we have, will we be getting young Claye and with what pick? Surely now other clubs have seen what Dayne can do they'd be taking a look at Claye themselves.

scott russell and his brother kym were an awesome brother/brother combo in the early 90's!.....not!

We had craig kelly's younger brother on our list at one time too, dont think he played a game though.

Re: Clay Beams

Just the best available thanks. Brother combos don't usually work out for us.
Generally best available is the best option. This would be a 4th round selection. We don't have a third rounder. I'm no draft expert but at a late 4th round pick there isn't likely to much that isn't a punt anyway. He may well be gone by then but it will only be if another club has seen and rated him. As others have said, keeping him away from the GC is a plus in itself.

Claye struggled to get a game in the seniors in the AFLQ this season.

Long way off the talent of his brother.
Not untrue, but maybe a bit misleading. It was his first season of football in quite a while, from what I can gather, and he's on record saying that he only gave it a go as he was encouraged by his brother's performances.

His season went (statistically) like this;
He played 4 games for Labrador Tigers in the reserves during June. He kicked 4 goals over those 4 games, and in the last of them he was named BOG.

He then played in the seniors for 6 games in July/August. His 4th and 5th games in seniors saw him named in the best, the former being a BOG. He only kicked 2 goals in these games.

After his spell in the seniors, he dropped back to the reserves and was again listed in the best in the first of three games when he kicked two goals.

I think he's just showing the normal curve of improvement for a kid who hasn't played much football, and probably dropped off in part because he hadn't done a preseason.

It's up to the recruiters to decide whether he's got the necessary traits, and obviously he'd be a later selection... but I wouldn't write him off based on those results yet.

At best you would say maybe a Rookie. If we want to take a punt and we like the "Brother Stuff" we could do worse with Kris Pendlebury we have seen him for two years in Black & White I think he is 23 but can play or Frost from the VFL he goes alright as well but we are then off the brother thing

As I pointed out in another thread, the GC17 has unprecedented access to the rookie draft this year. Counting on getting a Qld boy in the rookie draft this year, is akin to banking on Today Tonight to air a genuine current affairs story.

Mate I actually saw him in most of those games. Even the ones where he was put in the 'best' (a list generated by members of his club) he was average at best.

Don't get me wrong he has some talent, but I have certainly seen a lot better.

Thanks for the info TRS. Sounds like a possible rookie listing.

Well I certainly can't argue with first-hand information, I only have vague stats to go on. Thanks for the input. :thumbsu:

*sigh* Not likely, see above. ;)

Looks like we might take him with a late pick

He has also spoken to Essendon and Brisbane which both seem very keen

Been interesting see what happends wouldnt be surprised if we maybe used a Rookie pick

As stated previously, we're next to a 0% chance of getting Claye Beams with a rookie pick.

GC17 has unprecedented access to the rookie draft this year, and you can bet that they'd be all over any talented kids from Qld before the rest of us get a look at him.

If we're keen on Beamer II, we'll have to use one of our later ND picks.
