This is the year we are supposed to be going to the superbowl with Watson.

"Do you want to win a superbowl ?"

That was the justification for trading for him.

The timing of the release of the news of the new lawsuit was perfect as well.

In other news Baker Mayfield had a day out against Washington.

:)

Watson had 2 reasonable games the previous couple of weeks.

So it's at the sink or swim stage, you have to keep playing him till it becomes obvious one way or the other.

You could make a film clip of all his good throws and actions if you wanted too.

He didnt really, the Raiders made Andy Dalton and Bo Nix look better than Watson did and they have less weapons than Watson does. Joe Flacco just threw for 300+ and 3 TDs vs the Jags, Watson's game was half as good as that. This film is eye opening, just ****ing awful QB play, bailing on clean pockets for no reason and running straight into tacklers, not seeing wide open receivers, all the suck is there. Reminds me off Bryce Young and for a guy being paid as much as Watson is that is horrendous, he needs to be benched, this is over.

Pretty much my thinking. You only bench Watson once it’s 100% over and you’re moving on for good.

Unfortunately the media are all fighting to show that they hate Watson the most and are therefore the best person, so they’ll just go for the simple hot take to make themselves look good.

But as bad as Watson has been, he’s not the only one. The O line has been injured and just straight up bad. The WRs lead the league in drops and are physically incapable of getting separation. And the run game is non existent.

They need to ride the Watson thing into the ground. Have there be no question. No benching him now but then think ‘maybe another preseason and a new offense can fix him’. Get the rest of the team healthy and see where you are. If you bench him, he’s done.

And if you do that, Winston isn’t the answer. They should be playing DTR if Watson gets benched. Because they’ll need to put together a cheap QB room the next couple of seasons while they swallow the dead money - and DTR’s rookie deal will make the move possible along with a draftee and a cheap vet. I’ve never thought the money side is non viable to making a move as some like to suggest.

So do the Browns draft a QB at the next draft?

I don't think this makes it any more likely. I think it potentially makes the last 7 weeks pointless. I wouldn't have benched Watson because there needed to be zero doubt before moving him on and taking the cap hit. If he kept losing, he'd have been gone. Now there's potential excuses - he was working his way into the new offense, Chubb was out, league worst O line play.

What are the possible options?

- DTR does well and everyone accepts that Stefanski with a good enough QB is enough. We use the cap benefit from the Watson insurance money to help pay out his contract and move on

- DTR and Winston suck, we pick really early and move on with a first round rookie QB (as an aside, Sanders will never come to/stay in Cleveland)

- DTR and Winston suck, we fire Stefanski and bring in an even more Watson friendly HC and OC

- DTR and Winston win enough games to miss out on the top rookie QBs, but not enough to convince everyone to move on from the Watson money and we run it back in 2025

Best case from here is probably going either 10-0 or 0-10 to finish the season.
