Club increasing the number of gold reserved seats

I used to sit in M52 (bottom deck Olympic stand). Easily the best place to watch footy for someone who likes to be in the thick of it. Plenty happening near the bench, Buddy kicks freak goals and you're not far from friends in the MCC members who can come and sit with you if they're lacking enough class.

I'll keep the gold interstate membership because I got so close to missing out on the 08 GF and I'll never let that happen again.

Can vouch for that NB - great area to sit especially for replacement games when the hawks interchange is on that side. For home games it lets you offer a bit of creative "encouragement" to the opposite bench.

Not sure I agree with all the play being on the Olympic wing though - seems to always be on the Southern side to me. Except for Buddy's pocket plays that is :thumbsu:

Am sitting there on Friday, so I'm pretty pumped!

I had a silver membership with seats level one M52, upgraded but told by the membership dept. there were no gold seats available, didn't care and had already requested to keep the same seats. Usually sit on level two outside Dean Jones bar for replacement games, also good seats but prefer level 1.

This year me my brother & sister we were silver reserved members. We want Gold for next year. What's the process for that? Do we have to call the membership department or is there like a waiting list? Or can we just upgrade? Thanks :)

Collingwood have a deal with the MCG that they have first crack at the Ponsford Stand for all Home & Away matches.

So if we put extra Gold Members on level 2 of the Ponsford then they'd need another spot to sit whenever we have a Home Match against the Pies.

Our Grand Final allocation process is much cheaper/better/fairer than Collingwoods.

Collingwood.
Priority 1 - Legends $870

Priority 2 - Captains $840 & Social Club $560

Priority 3 - 10+ Year consecutive members

Anyone else don't even bother

I think its the opposite, the Olympic has more legroom and wider more comfortable seats. Its cleaner and a lot fresher and new. I would prefer the Olympic but as I said would prefer to sit with mates over any.

I think also the new stands are a bit steeper giving (at least the perception) better leg room and better viewing.

Others might disagree.

I reckon there is more leg/arse room in the southern but the seats/facilities are superior in the Olympic.

But at the end of the season they are going to refurbish the Southern with 55-60 mill of creativity. Will probably get new seats and a rubbish bin:D.

I must apologise for being grumpy.

I called up and it seems the availability is purely from people who have given up gold seats and the cap has not been increased.

I upgraded anyway - its $7 month on the plan (10 months)

Good news form the AFL - who I think will increase GF allocation to each competing club by 1000 approx

On the southern v northern stands. I read somehting when the northern was constructed that the top and bottom decks of the northern and suthern ahve a similar number of rows, but because each seat gets more room in the northern, that the stand is quite a bit taller than the southern

Thanks guys. I think the rake in the seating may be slightly more steep in the Olympic/Northern than in the Southern. This could be contributing to the perception of there being less room, but who knows.

I shall run another visual comparison on Friday night as I have tickets undercover in the Olympic....perhaps they'll be easier to compare with my regular undercover tickets in the Southern. It's a difficult thing for me to figure out, and constuction/design is my ballgame! Go figure. :D

Ah goodo... I'm planning to upgrade too. So I take it I'll get the option to keep my seats on level 1 Olympic, or be upgraded to Level 2 Olympic?

I've heard that the seats that I am currently seated in (I imagine the section) is going from Silver to Gold. I am Gold, but chose to keep my seats after upgrading.

I sit in M16... and I think the open area seats are the one's turning to Gold.
That's disturbing. My reserved seat is in M16 right next to the AFL members' fence (not undercover) and I'm not upgrading to gold. Have seen nothing from the club to say I'll be keeping or losing my current seat.

When they got rid of the standard reserved seating membership and made them silver, our renewal notice just assumed we wanted the same seats, so the price went up accordingly.

Maybe it's best to call the club and check.

I sit in the undercover bit of M16, and my source is not from the club... so it's just something I heard. It might be just the undercover section that's going Gold, not sure. Sorry to alarm.

As I said its just gold seats becoming available in existing gold areas. I was wrong in the OP

Ive asked to go to the olympic stand to avoid the sun in my eyes - but I'll get to choose in nov when they finalise the areas. I think there is the option to stay where you are

Theres also the option of reserved seats for designated games - 4 games for $80

My Gold seats are N53, second level Olympic stand. In my opinion the best seats in the house (ok, being over a couple of more bays towards MCC would be slightly better. Modern football is so much about positioning, switching play etc, seats on level 2 give you the best view of ths structure IMO.

The club have been given a great allocation of grand finals tickets and have opened up more gold spots because of this. They have offered these to people on a gold waiting list, not all of them took it up. I would think that the majority of people upgrading to gold would be coming out of silver anyhow, thus, it wouldnt have much affect on the number of silver members who get a grand final ticket. In 08 every gold (inc Kennedy) and silver member that wanted a ticket got one, some standard members also recieved tickets in the ballet. Since then the silver has increased a fair bit, so I wouldn't expect many tickets to filter all the way through, should we make it.

I also know people who upgraded from Silver to Gold but choose to keep their silver seat. I think you will find that over time the level 2 seats will remain exclusively for Gold or Kennedy, and anything else will be by request, ie if a gold member wants to have a shitty silver seat behind the point post, then so be it.

Vertigo. It's friggin dizzying up there!

^ I recall back when the MCG re-development was completed asking a friend "would you ever sit up there, like, the back row?". We agreed, yes, if Hawthorn was in a Grand Final and we had no other choice, a cut lunch and a thermos full of Gin!
Yep... It's a fair way up. And steep too. I think it's the steepness of that top deck that makes the stand taller. Probably comparable to Etihad's 3rd tier where you definitely need the grab bars to walk up and down the steps. I felt sorry for the high number of nanna's that were in the back row that day.
