Problem with this kind of thing is you are always left looking at players who have shown superstar calibre versus those who produced in 2004.

At West Coast, Judd, Gardiner, Matera and Cousins have had seasons in recent years which would class them as superstars.

Putting everything else to one side and looking purely at their overall production in 2004, it is

Superstars: Judd
Stars: Fletcher, Matera, Kerr, Glass, Cox.

Mcleod should be in bold he still isnt finished. watch him next year and he will finish pretty high up in the brownlow. Now that Ayres has left Craig will let him run free in the midfield and rack up the possesions.

A very over-used term. Should be reserved for legends of the game and I wouldn't put any more than 3 or 4 current players in that category.

Voss, Buckley, Hird and Harvey would about cover it.

superstars in team form

Pavlich Scarlett Wanganeen
Buckley Cornes Leppitsch
Lappin Judd Voss
Reiwoldt Tredrea Hird
Akermanis Lloyd Cousins

Ricciuto Black Brown (as ruck)

Harvey, Crawford, Bell

I'd argue Leppitsch is no longer a superstar. Seems to be down from that a little, but rumour has it there is some kind of private life problem going on with him this year.

you speak the truth.
never have there been so many "champions" running around at any one time when in reality there are so few.
it seems that 1 good season makes you a star. go 2 in a row you're suddenly a superstar and for the few that back it up with a third...well get their HOF nomination ready.
labels like these should be kept in check till at least a player is in the twighlight of his career.
