Coach Brad Scott on a mission

From: Sunday Herald Sun
NORTH Melbourne coach Brad Scott has promised a resurgent Kangaroos outfit in 2011 as the club plans their assault on the finals next year.
Scott expects the entire playing list to be competitive with everyone on notice to earn their spot.
"The way we've recruited, I expect all of our recruits to be pushing for selection early in the new year," the coach said.
"Everyone on our list is capable of playing senior footy. Unlike previous years when you talk about our youth, that youth is now ready to get out there and perform at the highest level.
"Every player should be pushing to play senior football next year. It creates competition for spots and I expect it to be fierce."
The draftees Scott refers to are Shaun Atley, Kieran Harper, Cameron Delaney, Ben Mabon and former West Coast Eagle Ben McKinley.
All the players are expected to improve after the dismal finish to 2010.
"I would be interested to ask the players where they think the improvement comes from following their ninth place," Scott said.
"I think they were bitterly disappointed not to play in September. But to be brutally honest, we finished ninth for a reason.
"We deserved to finish ninth and we have to improve. We really have to challenge the top four sides.
"I expect a much better performance against the best sides, and if you perform better against them then you will play deep into September.
"Our focus is now on beating those top sides."
But the boys from Arden Street face a tough beginning to 2011.
Their NAB Cup campaign kicks off at Skilled Stadium against Geelong, followed by a clash against the Western Bulldogs.
"The group is certainly better prepared (for next season) and were are really looking forward to getting out and giving a good account of ourselves in those first two games," Scott said.
"But our focus is squarely on the first round against West Coast in Perth, followed by Collingwood.
"We're looking forward to the start of the season and want to get off to a flying start.
"We expect a sellout for the Collingwood clash at Etihad Stadium in Round 2," he added at the club's family day yesterday.
Interestingly, unlike powerhouses clubs such as Collingwood, there was no sign of the chairman on stage alongside the playing group and Scott at the family day.
----------
Interesting comment by Tony Sheahan at the end of the article. I can't quite work out whether he's having a shot at McGuire for always having his big head in everything or if he's having a shot at JB for not being there.
