Paul Spargo from Albury. Always seem to lift sides when he went back there to coach. Is there anyone that can vouch for him? I have never played under him but have heard him speak and all of the players seemed to have a lot of respect for him.

Played against not under him. Very passionate and honest. Playing group generally loved him. Possibly not the greatest tactically - and had some very good sides.

Peter Somerville was a great coach to play under, taught me a lot about playing in the ruck and about how the mid field should work.
some might not say so but Dean Lupson was also very good to play under, demanded respect and the players respond to him, knew how to get the best out of his list. won 3 senior premierships in a row, one of them with a buch of kids under 21 who jad only a few years of senior experience.

There is no doubt Lupson knows his footy - but his personality is much to volatile and I think Sunbury would be the only club that would suit his style of coaching.

Martin Cross Snr - best coach I have had the good fortune to play under.

Hi Guys
I think that the best coach in Country Football is definately david Williams of Rochester in the Goulburn Valley Football League. Has Coached them for 15 yrs and still going. Has coached Rochy to the 92,93,97,98,99,01,02 GFs. Winning the 92 and 99 Premierships. Rochy has a population of 2600, and is the smallest town in the GV League. He has baically done it with locals. Getting the best out of everyone and demanding the ultimate in team first menatility. Go and and listen to him speak, he us a teacher, preacher and tactitain. Undoubtedly the best. I played under him for 10 years. An absolute priviledge.

My three would have to be:

Jason Mifsud: Currently a St.Kilda assisstant coach. He coached us at a junior footballer camp where the best players from around the district went and trained and he was a hardarse. One morning he had us up at 5am doing a skills session and one mistake meant we would run 2km and come back and do it again. He was bloody scary when training, which pushed you, but once training was done he was very approachable and easy to hang out with. Great football brain as well.

Adam Dowie: Dowie was actually my PE teacher at school and he was the first person to really get me to push through the physical part of football and run my guts out. Always knew how to tap individual players potentials and always pushed you to go that extra km no matter what.

Paul Henrikson: Henry was only my school coach but he was also the Falcons selector for our area and he taught me alot about the tactical part of football and where the best ways to attack were. He pushed me when it came to Falcons selection, and while didn't focus on the physical part as much, he knew what players could do and could see potential. Bit of a dork but a nice enough guy.

Barry Prendergast was the A/C at Appin for a year in his twilight and would still gather 40-50 touches in a side that got beaten a bit. He got his touches in both halves of the ground and also kicked his 1 or 2 goals a game. He oozed class and would match Trevor Ryan no doubt. Also coached Northcote Park when they were strong in the DVFL. He ended up coaching Eastern Ranges to a GF in the VSFL U18's. Then went on to be on the Western Bulldogs coaching panel. Now I believe he is associated with Melbourne somehow.
Fair resume hey..

I had the pleasure of watching 99 GF in GV,and heard the address at 3qt by Williams, even i was pumped right up,and all the boys were too!!!You can tell a good coach by the way he not only demands, but gets respect.Every Tiger player that day would've given their left lung for him. My best is Adrian Wagner, or "WOMBAT" as he's better known. Has been on the RAAF and ADF coaching panels for a few years now, was senior coach at Nor-West Jets for a few as well. Great tactician, unrivalled knowledge of the game, and a hard as nails backman to boot(forwards cant coach!!!)only bad things are a)passionate Hawks fan, and b)he's from Tassie.Cant have em all.

Waiting to see how long David Williams would take to make the list. Surprised it lasted so many pages. Probably the best speaker both on the footy field (and off to an audience) I have ever heard. You don't get given respect, you earn it, and he earnt it quite early when coaching.

Another of the not played under but playing in the kids when he was coaching Watchem-Corack, Greg Dax.
The way he lead the whole club from the kids right up was fantastic. Even though we didn't win too many games in the kids we still played with our heads high because of the way that he lead and inspired the whole club. There were no flags in the seniors in his time but it didn't seem to matter.
He only left the club when he was appointed captain of the St Kilda seconds in the late 80's before heading up to the GV and coaching Tatura.

played under daxy at robinvale. great coach. great bloke. led by example.won the flag

in 99 Nathan Gemmill and Sparksy were the only out of towners in the premiership. In 01 and 02 I cant recall anyone who wasnt local.

Sparks, Morgan, Febey, Bluey didn't play in 92. No doubt Rochy's strength over the years has been its locals. Simon McCarty, Robbie Miller, Shane Dupuy to name a few. Or more to the point, its ability to keep its locals playing there.

Gary Hawker was a traveller from Melbourne. Hansen, Gray and Harrison were all from the area but not home grown.
It was a good effort though.

In 01 & 02 there was the likes of Fitzsimmons from Shepparton, Kris Hill from Colbo travelling from Melb, Gemmill played again in 02.
