what do you guys think of him.
This year has been alright for him but i think hes lucky to be in the seniors. He doesnt play in the 2nds that often and Harris and SMith have played 8? games between him. I think in these last 3-4 games he has to play 'special' as bruce would say

He's no star (yet!) but has put together some servicable games... unfortunately he's spent lots of time on the bench for the last few weeks. I thought he was one of our few decent players against the Swans when he finally got on the ground.

His skills aren't that bad... his short kicks are a bit shaky, but his hands are quick, and he has a lovely long kick on the run. He's pretty pacy and has great endurance, but is very weak overhead for his size.

The real question is how much improvement does he have left? I think they will keep him, on the basis of how much he's improved since last year... but a stagnant year in 2002 would spell the end.

Now Clayton on the other hand, appears to have gone nowhere for quite a while... I can feel the axe descending...

Height. That' the key here. Not many running players on the list standing 189 cm - and he has negated Schwass and Lappin in earlier games.

Can kick it long too but marking is weak and lacks confidence... Not a core player but could improve... 5 years on the list is a little deceptive as he was acquired as a very young 16 year old and was expected to be a key possie type but has been 'reinvented' as a winger..

It's no good being tall, if you don't play tall.

The only reason I think the club has persisted with Cochrane, is that he came with a compensatory draft pick, which is a pretty high price, so they want to make a footballer of this kid, no matter what! Personally, I reckon it's not gonna happen...

I'm with King Corey on this one - give the kid another year before we make the final decision. I still think that he could be the next John Blakey if he continues to improve. It all depends on next season

I hope Cochrane isn't still at the club at age 35.

If he's around that long perhaps we could give him the job of holding up the signs in front of the huddle at 1/4 and 3/4 times. Come to think of it that's a great job for Shane Clayton!!:D

Bye bye Cochrane.

Clayton may stay on as he had a great season for us in 1999 and I think Denis may wait another year to see if he recaptures the magic...

He had magic???

Of concern to supporters, would be the fact that both Clayton and Cochrane are in the team now - at the business end of the season. Late season senior regulars, while they are likely to be offered in trades, will usually not be delisted.

Perhaps this is what is doing. Playing them for bait:confused:

Can't be for any other SANE reason. Like Sheedy with Alessio, by playing a dud for the last few weeks, and varying ground time depending on the quality of the opposition, it builds up a "games played" statistic and some nuff-nuff club like Freo or St.Kilda might be dumb enough to take these hacks off our hands.

Because of...............

His towering overhead marks ?
His pinpoint short passes ?
His lightning handpasses which always hit targets ?
His legendary evasive skills ?
His reknowned strength and hardness at the ball ?
His amazing goalkicking ability from impossible angles ?

Who is smoking what ?????;)

Ditto. That's now two people who have absolutely no idea what Rawlings' role is in the team. Still no-one has pointed out what it is supposed to be.

I must admit I'm not entirely sure what his role is but I would give him another year. Although he has been here for three years? he was drafted as a 17 year old so I think people may be to harsh on him.

Show him a gym and pump the droids into him over summer and see what happens.

He may be like Cockers, a late developer.

Rawlings has been good this year. Despite his puny frame, he goes in harder than most in our team. Go back and watch the tapes.
He is quick. He runs with the ball very well and chases hard.
His overhead marking has really improved, he is actually taking very good marks. In fact his overhead marking is better than Wayne's, do you want to get rid of him too?
Apart from our aboriginal contingent, he ranks with Boomer and Kingy as the best evader in the team. He kicks long and he is beginning to use the ball better in short. When he came to the Roos he was told to kick longer as his short kicks were perfect and regular. He now has to change back.
He is one of the most exciting youngsters. Plus his brother took a lot of time to develop physicallyas well. Rawlings will be, and is, great for us.

I agree with you MOTI. WE got him young, and with LIMITED time on the ground this year he has really started to develop into a full-time senior player. He is definately worth persevering with.
