Well i reckon it does?

A shit band wont get a wide ranging demographic at their gigs.

Yeah, i know you'll say some crap like "oh spice girls used to sell out world tours" and they did.

But i reckon on of their gigs in the 90's would have held the same crowd.

Go to a gig with a decent band, and you see a wide range of audiences there. Young people, older people. Its always a good indicator of a good band.

Genuinely, indie bands have inferior tunes for whatever reason, there tunes aren't good enough to branch out to a wider audience, which the fans and the bands paper over by saying we're 'alternative' or the other chest nut "original".

A band like Blur started off on the indie circuit in the 90's, but there tunes were good enough to break out into the 'mainstream'. I pay very little time to tinny sounding Indie bands, you put all indie bands in a room, and the ironic thing is, they all LOOK the same and they all SOUND the same :eek::eek:

Wow...just wow. You are brainwashed. You are a sheep. Baa. Baa. I have no hesitation in calling you a ____. Go listen to triple M where you can enjoy that boy band cold play, and kick it with some grandmas at one of their gigs. ____.

They say they were going to give us something new, well whatever it is the fourth album has failed me. Usually it's the third.

Brian Eno gives us nothing new.

The two tracks from the title of the album I like the best and Yes! but it is miles behind the other two albums.

Truth hurts doesnt it ________.

Alternatively, their music is too complex and subtle for morons to understand? Or, most people don't have the patience, the songs are too long, dark, depressing, strange, whatever.

Personally i'm coming from the post-metal/post-rock/dark ambient angle. But you could say the same of alot of indie bands.

You going to sit there and tell me there are thousands of acts out there better than, for example, The White Stripes? Because if you judge solely on mass appeal, and ticket/album sales, as you are doing, then that is the case.

Metal is slightly different, a totally different genre to the sterotypical 'indie' band.

The White Stripes i would say are fairly well known as a decent American band.

Im not judging SOLEY on mass appeal/ticket sales, etc, i am saying that a good band will attract a wide demographic in terms of audience, as well as other factors, a good band will stand the test of time, sell records and influence future bands.

But i can name many bands who started on an independent label, and who were burdened with small budgets in recording, advertising and promotion but made a name with great music and a relentless touring schedlue. Indie fan boys can say theirs band's sound is to complex or dark for 'morons' to get, but as i said, i can name many bands who made it big with a complex and dark sound. A band like Joy Division is a perfect example, signed to the now defuct Factory Records they were a very well known band with a complex sound. The list can go on, but at the end of the day, many indie bands simply dont have the tunes, they simply arent good enough, history has no place for them.

You must be hurting big time...____.

Im not the one who came on here throwing vitrol at a poster all because they said that indie bands generally are ____ing deplorable but disguise it with the usual 'alternative' or to complex talk that indie fan boys seem to sprout when ever someone negatively talks about their genre.
