That's where you're missing the point again. His "Position" - like everybody else is to perform the role, Multiple roles (hence the entire squad's versatility) asked of him by his coaches. Not many players have just one task or role on gameday and Colin is no different. RTB has hinted time and time again that he's not fulfilling one or more roles asked of him on the field.

Exactly, Colin is no different.

Everyone who has performed the "role" that Sylvia has been playing the last few weeks has sucked at it. De Boer sucked at it, Suban sucked at it, and then Sylvia sucked at it. Whoever plays there is going to suck at it this week too. Perhaps its the role that sucks, rather than the player who plays in it.

MDB wasn't much chop offensively, but has always been very good defensively. Sylvia sucked at it offensively AND defensively. Can't remember what Suban did in the role. Probably similar to Colin.

MDB gets his spot back for mine.

Did Sylvia suck defensively? Did his opponent damage us? All the criticisms I saw were of him not getting enough possessions and not kicking any goals. Which is exactly what everyone else who has played that role has produced.

MDB is the sub so I think it's likely that Suban will go back into the role this week with the return of Hill. But generally I just think this "role" sucks balls and it should be another key tall forward target there instead of what is effectively a forward tagger.

I'm coming in hot with a two post special before I take my leave as per my bet with Cobbler, however pokers was right if we're judging replacements.

Matt De Boer - 5k, 4h, 3m, 2t in about 3 quarters of football with most of those stats coming when he got a run in the middle early in the last quarter.

I didn't get to the game till the end of the first quarter so I'm not sure who was up there before but looking at Suban's stats who got going later when he was playing in the middle, I'd say it was him.

Not a knock on either of these players by the way, just maybe adding to the evidence that playing HFF in a Ross Lyon team kind of sucks.

My point is that there are no pure medium/small forwards these days. Ballantyne, Walters and Mayne will be found up the ground winning their own ball as much as any other player.

This is rubbish and I'm sure you know it too. Ballantyne is kicking goals now because he's playing deep. He had 8 disposals tonight but he'd be in our best because he kicked 3.1. Yes forwards don't stay goal square bound anymore but I'm sure you recognise the difference when you're watching between deep and half forward type players.

For the record if Ross doesn't think he's working hard enough defensively fair enough, he's right, I'm just convinced that he's not as far off as some on here have him.

I actually think it was Lachie Neale who was there early. He was named in the forward pocket and had about 4 touches to half time before moving up the ground when De Boer came on.

That spot is just a graveyard for whoever plays there. They are only ever going to get 10-12 touches. So it's fine for someone like Ballas or Walters who can turn those 10 touches into 3 goals on a regular basis.

But whichever midfielder is sentenced to play there is going to be on the bigfooty chopping block after the game. I was guilty of that myself with Suban, who did pretty much bugger all while playing there for the first half of the season. Since he's been moved into the midfield he's been much more influential.

I really don't think it's fair to bag Sylvia for not performing in a role that none of our mids have been able to perform in.

Since we don't actually have another goalsneak type who can make that spot effective, I really think we should just play another tall instead of having a mid there who plays as a tagger in our forward line each week. It would stretch opposition defenses and allow Pavlich and Clarke to be bigger threats.
