Collard

I think Foster looks a hell of a lot more promising. Whether it's this year or next when he gets back on the field!

simmonds collard polak....... not one of them are a massive loss. good luck to him, we have rhys palmer so it doesnt matter

Massive loses? No, not at this stage anyway. Just ask yourself why they are no longer at Fremantle because it's certainly wasn't a lack of talent. If they get there commitment/attitude (whatever you want to call it) right they could have very good careers.

They are 2 wasted draft picks, thats about the only thing you can say with any certainty.

Not sure what Palmer has to do with it though. Theoretically we could have Collard, Palmer, Polak hell even Medhurst on our list still.

Without knowing the ins and outs of what Collard got up to last year, it seems strange to me to de-list him then add Bradley, Johnson and Head.

If he was a trouble maker he had to go but he could quite easily play more AFL games than Bradley, Johnson and Head play for Fremantle combined. Considering how well Palmer, Hinkley, Mayne and Connelly have started I would have preferred to see Collard replaced by a teenager.

all things aside, he was just no good, simple as that. he didnt take his chances at AFL level, and struggled for any consistency at WAFL

kepler and johnno showed more potential that any of the draftees left for us that late in the draft. why cant anyone see that? for our premiership window, these guys are worth more than any late draft pick.

Because Kepler looks shit, and Head seems to be very similar to a few fringe players who already don't get a game. Not that I have a huge problem with those selections, but I would have preferred to see us take Johnson + Kepler/Head + a young bloke. Three recycled players in one draft is too many.

If we are to win a flag this year I'm betting it's with very little input from Head and Bradley. Bradley only deserves a spot if two of Pav/Tarrant/Murphy/Campbell get injured.

I think the problem was more that Harv's was not brutal enough on the players we've already got. I would have delisted Webster and Browne. They are both fringe players and they are both horribly injury prone and regularly not available when we need them. Johnson, Head and even Keplar are better options than those two.

I'm happy with Connelly, Smith and Pratt on the rookie list as our young ones to take a chance with, along with it finally looking like we may have picked up at least 2 (if not 3) guys who have the goods in the proper draft.

I couldn't give a crap about how much talent tools like Collard or Polak have. The thing is that they think and play for themselves, not required at this club. Although spuds in Bradley and MJ probably will be mistakes at least they have the heart to play for a team.

Collard will fit in well with Wallets, mercenary N.Brown, Matty (abuse my teamates and grease my hair) Richardson and Polhack. Together they can all fight together to pull themselves out of the bottom 4 in the next 3 years.
You're a bit unkind to us.:(

Sometimes players need a change of scenery to realise their talents. Polak showed enough last year to suggest he could be much better value at Punt Rd than he was at Freo, which is a shame for you guys. Don't know enough about Collard - does he actually have ability?

He's got ability but from watching him in the WAFL he seems like a very lazy footballer. If his opponent is on top he drops his head and just doesn't work hard enough.

Plus there's a few question marks over his off field commitment too.

I guess on the bright side we didn't waste a high pick getting him. Hopefully he can find some motivation - I seem to remember some drafting reports describing Buddy similarly ;).

Polak never showed anything at Richmond that he didn't show at Freo. That was his ability to play by himself and take uncontested marks. When Wallace did try to put him on an oponent and free up a more dangerous player in Bowden, he got hammered into the ground like the lazy weakling he is.

Could we have delisted extra playesr? Or do you mean exchange Webster and Browne for one of Collard, Copping, Dunn(redrafted), Haddrill, Mourish (redrafted), Rumble and Walker delisted this year.

What is the maximum number of draft picks we can use? Did we have another 2?

I was surprised that Browne and Webster were retained, but think that they offer more than Head and Bradley.

I rate Webster on par with Gilmore. Gilmore adds more to the list because he's our 3rd best ruck option but both Gilmore and Webster don't have a natural position at AFL level. Gilmore has greater pace and endurance but Webster is a better kick and a much better tackler.

Pretty sure you can take as many players in the national draft as you like, aslong as you have spots free on your list.

We used 5 picks in November but Adelaide used 7 so hypothetically we could have de-listed Browne and Webster and had two more picks.

He can take contested marks, and he was also willing to put himself in a pretty ugly position backing into packs.

I think his problems are 1) he can't beat one of the oppositions two best tall forwards making him an average backman, and 2) despite his marking ability he can't kick for goal with any reliability or penetration at all, making him a poor forward.
.
He is best as a specialist third man up in a marking contest/loose man in defense, and the list of players we have that can do the same role but much better include M Johnson and Mundy. Both of them have better disposal skills, and there are others on our list such as Drum who can play the role.

realistically, we were not going to get players of the quality of webster and browne down at like number 120 in the draft. We might have gotten lucky, we might not, but players that low are project players and they would have just given us more people to carry this year without a contribution.
