2008 AFL Season - Round 8
Collingwood vs Brisbane @ Gabba

COLLINGWOOD: 5.1 ~ 11.8 ~ 12.9 ~ 17.14 (116)
BRISBANE: 6.2 ~ 6.2 ~ 10.11 ~ 10.12 (72)

Two fierce rivals, with similar stories so far this season, searching for their fourth win, began hostilities on a partly cloudy Sunday Afternoon. With the home side winning the toss and electing to go to the end with a strong breeze, Collingwood would have their work cut out for them. In an arm wrestle full of goals, the Pies were trailing by 7 points, but now had the three goal breeze in the second quarter. They used this to advantage kicking an inaccurate but none the less good score of 6.7 and keep the Lions score less. Now the real test would be containing them in the third quarter against the breeze. As Brisbane controlled most of the play, they couldn't put it on the scoreboard, kicking 4.9 and trailing by 10 points at the last break. With the strong breeze heading Collingwood's way they were expected to run out the game strongly. And so they did, kicking 5 goals to just one single behind to run away winners by 44 points and give them their second win in a row and a bit of confidence.

2008 AFL Season - Round 9
Collingwood vs St. Kilda @ MCG

COLLINGWOOD: 3.2 ~ 4.4 ~ 8.6 ~ 13.8 (86)
ST. KILDA: 1.3 ~ 8.7 ~ 10.7 ~ 11.11 (77)

Collingwood were slowly heading up the ladder, but St. Kilda were going to be no easy beats as they teams met at the home of football on a Saturday Afternoon. The first quarter was a total arm wrestle with the second goal only coming at the 21.30 minute mark. Collingwood had kicked both so far. St. Kilda were almost kept goal less except for a magical Luke Ball goal after he weaved around two players from the bounce and kicked it from 45m out just seconds before the siren. It was all St. Kilda in the second quarter unfortunately kicking seven goals to one. Just six minutes into the third quarter, Dane Swan went down with a Strained Calf. Collingwood got back within 13 points at the last change thanks to some hard running by the half back flankers such as Burns and the Shaws. Scott Burns and Alan Didak kept Nick Dal Santo quiet in the third quarter, only picking up two possessions after picking up 20 in the first half. Whoever could take control early in the last quarter would win the match. The first goal was crucial, and in typical style it was Collingwood's class machine in Scott Pendlebury who achieved that feat, assisted by Josh Fraser and Alan Didak. At the fourteen minute mark, Brodie Holland kicked a goal from 35m out, putting the Pies in front by five points. Two minutes later, Ben Reid managed to out muscle Matt Maguire and charged in to kick another major for the Pies. Scott Pendlebury followed up again, with his second, just three minutes later. Robert Harvey knew the game was still for the taking and the veteran goaled in the 27th minute. 9 point ball game. As St. Kilda were charging forward, the siren went surprisingly early and the game was over, the Pies had triumphed by nine points.

COLLINGWOOD: 2.1 ~ 8.5 ~ 11.8 ~ 13.13 (91)
SYDNEY: 3.2 ~ 5.2 ~ 7.4 ~ 10.5 (65)

As an wet evening dawned, the rain began bucketing down as the Pies were hoping to bring their winning streak to four. A moderate breeze was blowing towards the Swans goal as the wet conditions forced many errors. Travis Cloke was reported just twenty minutes in for eye coughing Peter Everitt. Collingwood's aggression in the wet was taking it's toll with Heath Shaw reported for charging. Not long after Alan Didak was reported for striking and the Pies would look to be limited next week. But at least they were controlling play in the wet, kicking six goals to two in the second quarter, leading by 21 points. When things on the scoreboard looked good, nothing else was looking pleasing for the Pies with Ben Reid breaking his hand just nine minutes into the third quarter. Collingwood won the quarter narrowly, a real success for the Pies as they now led by 28 points at the last change, now kicking with the wind. While the Swans were able to regain a bit of control on the scoreboard, the Pies notched up their fourth win on the trot by 26 points in the wet.

2008 AFL Season - Round 11
Collingwood vs Melbourne @ MCG

COLLINGWOOD: 8.1 ~ 12.3 ~ 16.4 ~ 21.11 (137)
MELBOURNE: 5.5 ~ 10.7 ~ 15.12 ~ 19.13 (127)

Good old Queens Birthday was looking like a beautiful day, with two teams in the middle of the field (Collingwood 7th, Melbourne 9th). Melbourne won the toss and elected to go with the light breeze. Cameron Wood, starting in the ruck for a change, kicked the first goal three minutes in. Four minutes later, Tobias Thoolen lived out every boy's dream with his first goal coming from his first kick in AFL footy. Collingwood flew out of the blocks, with the first six goals of the match before Melbourne hit back kicking the next four, Yze kicking two of them. Rocca steadied the Pies with a strong goal. Melbourne's inaccuracy was hurting them, however so was Tarkyn Lockyer who was reported for Eye Gouging. Collingwood now would kick with the wind and had a 14 point lead. As Melbourne and Collingwood went goal for goal in the second quarter, igniting the crowd into momentous roars. By half time, Melbourne had narrowed the margin to 8 points, setting up a thrilling third quarter. Many Collingwood fans were unhappy with the umpires with Melbourne leading the frees 11-3 at half time. Ryan Cook was reported early in the second half for Eye Gouging, the fifth report in two weeks. After Melbourne managed to draw level with the Pies, Anthony Rocca once again kicked an important goal, his fourth, to give the signal that they weren't going to lie down. Cameron Bruce had other ideas, kicking two goals in a row, putting the Demons in front. Melbourne began to take control and were seeming to break Collingwood's back, until Fraser goaled at the 27 minute mark to give the Pies some hope. John McCarthy then took what could be the mark of the year, rising above three players to take a beauty and convert to bring the margin back to nine points. Josh Fraser once again became the hero kicking another crucial goal just before three quarter time to put Collingwood only two points behind the Demons. As we prepared for a beauty of a last quarter, both teams were ready to go with a few showers now drizzling down. Miller kicked the opening goal of the quarter for Melbourne, only to be responded to by Rocca kicking his fifth just moments later. Only for another goal 20 seconds later to Brad Dick to put the Pies in front. Collingwood missed several oppotunities to increase the lead, kicking four behinds in a row, before Lockyer slotted home a goal at the 11 minute mark, and the margin was 14 points. Mark Jamar seemed to be the surprising hero, kicking two goals in a row for Melbourne to put them within two points of the Pies. James McDonald kicked a goal at the 24 minute mark to set the crowd alight by putting the Dees up by three points. Ryan Cook missed a crucial shot and the margin was 2 points at the 26 minute mark. Then Scott Pendlebury took a mark and casually slotted a goal to put the Pies up by four. John McCarthy sealed the win just 30 seconds later, with a great goal, with the Pies winning by 10 points in a thriller to record their fifth victory in a row.

WEST COAST: 9.1 ~ 12.1 ~ 15.7 ~ 18.7 (115)

These two teams were involved in an epic last year at this ground which saw the Semi Final go into extra time and the Pies have a memorable win, great conditions, two teams raring to go, we will see if the Pies can make it six in a row. Within thirty seconds of the match underway, Chris Dawes had the first major on the board. Two minutes later, Rocca added to the total with another goal. Lynch replied with the first to the Eagles. By the end of the quarter, the Eagles had dominated, leading by 16 points, but with deadly accuracy. Dean Cox was dominating. Now the light breeze would be with the Pies, but they would need to lift a bit to get back into this. A perfect example was Brad Dick missing a reasonably easy shot for the Pies, only for it to be rushed down and Dean Cox scoring a goal for the Eagles. If it wasn't for the Pies' inaccuracy they would probably be in front, with the quarter being broken dead even only due to the Pies kicking 2.6, while the Eagles kicked 3.0, which pretty much sums up the match. The third quarter was terrible with 5.12 kicked between the both sides, with the source that the Eagles must have caught Collingwood's disease. Now Collingwood had a small breeze in the last quarter but were 22 points down. With the inaccuracy getting worse, it was only in the last ten minutes of play when Rocca, McCarthy, Dawes and Thoolen all piled on goals to bring it back to 11 points at the 28 minute mark but it seemed too little too late as the Eagles managed to hold on to end Collingwood's 5 game winning streak.

2008 AFL Season - Round 13

COLLINGWOOD: 1.1 ~ 5.2 ~ 9.2 ~ 10.2 (62)
ADELAIDE: 3.2 ~ 4.7 ~ 8.13 ~ 11.19 (85)

Collingwood and Adelaide, two teams in the eight, coming off losses last week, were keen to impress in their Round 13 game at the Telstra Dome. With Rain bucketing down, no one had closed the roof, which meant the ground was very slippery. A scrappy old affair which was played mostly around the Crows' half forward line, the visitors led by 13 points at the first change. With the wind now heading towards the Pies' goals, Brad Dick scored the first goal of the second quarter. Pendlebury then goaled, putting the Pies within two points. With a couple of goals here and there, Wood's goal at the 20 minute mark gave the Pies the lead for the first time. At half time, the Pies led by a point. An energy draining game, the team who uses the bench best would win. Andrew McLeod kicked the first goal of the second half 30 seconds in, only for Rocca to responded two minutes later. Nathan Van Berlo put the Crows back in front, once again the Pies responded through O'Bree. This deadlocked the scores at the 13 minute mark. If one moment could be seen as a team lifter, then Dale Thomas' screamer over Scott Thompson and consequent goal, would be the catalyst. Rocca followed up with another goal a few minutes later. Adelaide responded with two quick, hurting goals before the break to put the Crows up by five points. Now the Pies had the Light Breeze going towards their goal if they could make use of it. Ben Rutten broke his finger in a huge blow for the Crows early in the last quarter. Tyson Edwards kicked the first goal of the quarter, but Scott Burns answered with an equally crucial goal. McGregor then kicked one for the Crows to put them up by 15 points. With Thompson kicking another the game was all over and the Crows had won by 23 points. At least the Pies had solved their goal kicking worries.

2008 AFL Season - Round 14
Collingwood vs Geelong @ TD

COLLINGWOOD: 3.5 ~ 12.13 ~ 15.14 ~ 23.19 (157)
GEELONG: 7.3 ~ 8.3 ~ 10.10 ~ 12.11 (83)

On a wet and windy day, Geelong won the toss and elected to go with the Gale Force wind that could see some massive beltings in some quarters. Geelong started off with the first five goals of the day before Paul Medhurst kicked the Pies' first. At quarter time the margin was 22 points, and with a seven goal breeze blowing, the Pies had a real chance to reverse that in the second quarter. Nick Maxwell however, was reported for striking late in the first quarter. Scott Pendlebury kicked the first goal of the second quarter four minutes in to reduce the margin to 16 points. After four behinds in a row, Chris Dawes made the effort worth it with a great goal to reduce it back to a goal the difference twelve minutes in. When Rusling goaled at the 14 minute mark, the Pies had hit the front. Collingwood managed to pile on eight goals in a row before Cameron Mooney finally split the big sticks at the 29 minute mark. Only for Brodie Holland to immediately respond with a goal. Collingwood led by 34 points at the main break, winning the quarter by 56 points. Corey Enright suffered an injured back seven minutes into the second quarter as a behind to Collingwood had been the only score so far. In fact, to many people's surprise, it was Scott Pendlebury who kicked the first goal of the quarter and the Pies increased their lead to 41 points. Medhurst added to the Pies' total at the 17th minute mark with the Cats still goal-less. Then in the 20th minute, Fraser kicked one and the Pies' fans were going crazy. Finally, at the 22nd minute mark, Matthew Stokes put through the Cats first major of the quarter. Near the end of the quarter, Josh Hunt broke a finger and the Cats couldn't seem to catch a break. Only a goal on the siren from the injured Josh Hunt could save them from total embarrassment in a quarter which they should have won by at least four goals, they broke even with Pies. Now Collingwood have the Gale Force wind in the last quarter with the margin 34 points at the last change. Rusling kicked the first of the last quarter three minutes in and the margin was 40 points. The contrasting of Rocca and Rusling in the forward line was scary. Rocca had 0.6 in a terrible display of inaccuracy, while Rusling had 6.0 and couldn't put a foot wrong. By the end of the game, Collingwood had run away with the match as expected and won by 74 points. Not bad considering your leading goal scorer didn't kick a goal.

Something weird, has happened, it's at the right spot, but the fixtures have totally change, but I'll continue seeing the Pies are 8-6 anyway lol. But now we play Adelaide, Kangaroos, Essendon, Hawthorn, St. Kilda, Port, Sydney and Fremantle.

Everything is identical to how I left it, just the fixture has completely changed... weird.

COLLINGWOOD: 7.3 ~ 13.5 ~ 16.7 ~ 19.10 (124)
ADELAIDE: 2.3 ~ 3.4 ~ 5.7 ~ 8.8 (56)

An overcast day marked proceedings with a moderate breeze going across the ground, making it a blustery day. To continue his great debut season, John McCarthy kicked the first goal of the day to the Pies, just three minutes in. After an arm wrestle developed in cold conditions, the Pies suddenly found run and kicked four quick goals halfway through the quarter to gain a four goal lead. Then after a few crucial misses by both sides, Tyson Goldsack kicked an important goal for the Pies in red time, to see them ahead by 30 points at the first break. As the second quarter got up and running, so did the Pies, kicking the first three goals through Rocca, Rusling and Swan. They already had nine individual goal scorers, with Rocca being the exception with two. When Rocca booted his third at the 24 minute mark, the Pies led by 55 points. Chris Dawes and Brodie Holland also added to the total, and as if a relief for Crows fans, Luke Jerico kicked a goal for the home side, their third for the match. It was a 61 point difference at the main break. Adelaide knew they had a long way to go to get anywhere near the Pies at this stage. Some form of relief for the Crows came early, when spectacular play maker, Dale Thomas, was forced from the field with a corked thigh. Adelaide missed some crucial shots in the third quarter despite being tight. Allowing the Pies to still narrowly win the quarter and lead by 66 points at the final break. Brett Burton and Michael Doughty kicked the Crows a couple early, only for Rocca to kick his forth shortly after. Again, despite keeping it tight and having most of the play, the Crows conceded the quarter by a couple of points and the Pies were victorious by 68.

2008 AFL Season - Round 16
Collingwood vs Kangaroos @ MCG

COLLINGWOOD: 6.3 ~ 10.9 ~ 15.10 ~ 19.12 (126)
KANGAROOS: 5.3 ~ 9.5 ~ 14.13 ~ 15.20 (110)

A new inform Magpies, looking to sneak into the top four came up against a so far disappointing Kangaroos, lavishing in fourteenth position. Light rain was felt with a light breeze going towards the Kangaroos' end. Youngster Danny Stanley was the first score on the board with a lovely goal to put the Pies in front. Rusling booted true minutes later as the Pies were looking good. After a scrappy affair, the Pies led by a goal at the first change. Early on in the second quarter, the Kangaroos drew first blood and scores were leveled. After a second quarter struggle, a late third goal to Danny Stanley put the Pies in front by ten points at the main break. Alan Didak kicked the all important first goal of the second half to put the Pies up by 15 points. Leigh Brown then responded for the Kangaroos. At the fourteen minute mark, the Roos had leveled the scoring. Scott Burns then put his body on the line with a pack mark and kicked truly. Anthony Rocca then finally kicked his first for the match. Then made it two as he celebrated putting the Pies 16 points ahead. An unlikely goal scorer in Simon Prestigiacomo kicked a goal and the Pies were up and running. Then the Kangaroos ruined the Pies' good work by kicking three late goals, along with a few unlucky misses, seeing the Pies' up by a solitary point at the last change, setting up for a beauty. Scott Burns was once again there for the Pies when they needed a leader, kicking the first goal of the final term. With the Pies going in with a massive forward line containing Rocca, Fraser, Rusling and Dawes, they were aiming to out mark their opponents. Fraser kicked truly to help this theory. Rocca then kicked truly for his third, and the Pies were holding steady. The Kangaroos were missing far too many oppotunities, kicking seven behinds in a row, while Brown added to the Pies total with a great goal and suddenly they were 21 points up. Daniel Harris finally kicked a goal for the Roos, but it was too little too late as the Pies were triumphant by 16 points.

COLLINGWOOD: 1.2 ~ 3.3 ~ 7.3 ~ 10.7 (67)
ESSENDON: 5.5 ~ 6.7 ~ 7.8 ~ 8.14 (62)

Match of the Round, bitter rivals, both having great seasons, what more could you ask for? The 4th placed Pies took on the 5th placed Bombers at the home of footy. Despite eight points separating, a win for either side could determine who plays finals footy. The Pies were boosted by four brilliant returns in Thomas, Cloke, Heath Shaw and Lockyer to add depth to their team. In wet, cold conditions, the stage was set for a beauty. It was the Bombers who got the early start with the first three goals, then Medhurst kicked one for the Pies. Then the Bombers kicked another two to finish 27 points up at the first change. The crowd went nuts when Scott Pendlebury put through the Pies' second, at the 19 minute mark, before that no one had kicked a goal in the quarter so much relief was shown from the crowd. After a real mud wrestle in terrible conditions, the Bombers narrowly won the quarter, now leading by 22 points. Anthony Rocca finally booted home an important Magpie goal for the first of the third quarter after clearing out the forward line. He soon followed up with a second minutes later. Scott Pendlebury kicked his second goal for the match and suddenly it was game on. When Sean Rusling kicked a goal at the 14 minute mark, the Pies' had hit the front. Cale Hooker then kicked a late goal to put the Bombers up by 5 points at the last break. Danny Stanley was able to get on the scoreboard with a great goal to change leads again. Neon Leon then lit up the crowd kicked the goal of the day, exciting the Magpie Army into chanting. Then Collingwood captain Scott Burns stole an elusive Andrew Lovett handball to goal and put the Pies up by 15. Hooker was then once again a saviour for the Bombers when they needed a lift, kicking a crucial goal halfway through the quarter. Several missed behinds from both teams had them scrambling at the 27 minute mark with the Pies' up by seven points. Two behinds to Essendon after both were gettable shots, proved costly with the Pies holding on by a meager 5 points.

HAWTHORN: 4.7 ~ 8.9 ~ 12.11 ~ 15.13 (103)

With Collingwood one win away from sealing a finals birth, and heading for their fifth win in a row, they met Hawthorn down in Tasmania is Gale Force conditions which promised to present massive scores. Hawthorn won the toss and elected to go with the breeze in the first quarter. Hawthorn unsurprisingly got out of the blocks, kicking the first three goals, before Josh Fraser put through his first. Cyril Rioli replied for the Hawks, then big Anthony Rocca put his input into the match with a thundering goal from the 50. At quarter time, the margin was 19 points. Now the Pies' went in with the breeze to try and put the five goal wind to good use. Jordan Lewis captialised early with a good goal, only for Shane O'Bree to respond with one of his own only a few minutes after. Pendlebury showed pure skill, slotting another one home for the Pies as their accuracy was proving valuable. After a goal to Mark Williams, the Pies' piled on a few more, with Anthony Rocca's major at the 21 minute mark, putting the Pies' in front. Hawthorn kicked a couple, including Buddy kicking his second, but Rocca helped the Pies' with his fourth, putting them back in front. A late goal to Travis Cloke increased the margin to 9 points. Shane Crawford was dominating in the first half for the Hawks, having picked up 23 possessions, took 6 marks and kicked a goal. Now the Hawks had the massive wind. Anthony Rocca continued his first half form early, kicking his fifth goal early in the third quarter, extending the lead to 16 points. Then Roughead and Rioli kicked goals and put the Hawks back within three points. Hodge and Young then added to the total and the Hawks were up and away. Collingwood cleared the forward line a bit, and Rocca booted his sixth. When Leon Davis kicked a crowd favourite goal, the Pies had hit the front. At the last break, with the Pies' going into the last quarter with the breeze, a goal in front. Alan Didak kicked the crucial first goal of the last term. Then Rocca kicked his seventh and the Pies were happy. Cloke and Franklin both kicked one each. Rocca took his mammoth total to eight. In the end the Pies' ran away with the match, kicking ten goals to three in the final quarter to win by 50 points.

2008 AFL Season - Round 19
Collingwood vs St. Kilda @ TD

ST. KILDA: 2.2 ~ 4.6 ~ 7.10 ~ 9.15 (69)

For the first time this year, the Pies made no change to their side, and after the 50 point belting of Hawthorn, there was not much need. Heading for their sixth win in a row, the Pies were fired up for this clash. Collingwood won the toss and elected to go with the Strong Wind that was blowing down at ground level. Josh Fraser was the first on the board with a good goal. The Pies' kicked the first four of the day, before the Saints hit back with a couple. Bad news for the Pies' with Scott Pendlebury being reported for Unduly Rough Play, before kicking a goal himself. Even Prestigiacomo kicked a goal for the Pies as they found themselves leading by 25 points at the first break. With the Saints having the breeze, they were expected to hit back. While it was tight on the field, the Pies were managing to put it on the scoreboard, the Saints couldn't seem to convert enough. Only a late goal to Robert Harvey saved the Saints from complete embarrassment going with a four goal breeze. Now it was Pies' turn to try and extend the 31 point lead. All was looking good for the Pies' until Harry O'Brien went down with a knee injury. Doctors reports were the ACL. There goes the young defenders' season down the drain. Collinwood's 'share it around' attitude was prominent in the match with eleven players already having kicked goals halfway through the third quarter. They had kicked the last four goals and only Adam Schneider's running goal stopped the stem of flow. A couple of late goals to the Saints humbled the score a bit but the Pies still led by 37 points. Now the Saints had the breeze but could they drag back the margin and win? The next 30 minutes would tell us the answer. Alan Didak kicked the first goal of the last quarter and became his team's 12th goal kicker. A goal for goal inaccurate display was exciting the crowd but frustrating the fans. But when Rocca kicked his third goal at the 27 minute mark, the Pies' fans celebrated, knowing they had well and truly secured a finals birth. And with the cellar dwellars Port Adelaide next week, things were looking good for the Pies.

2008 AFL Season - Round 20
Collingwood vs Port Adelaide @ AAMI

COLLINGWOOD: 5.6 ~ 5.6 ~ 13.13 ~ 14.14 (98)
PORT ADELAIDE: 1.2 ~ 5.4 ~ 11.6 ~ 18.15 (123)

After the Pies' secured a top four spot last week, they are looking to easily roll the last placed Port Adelaide, but they had a win last week and are looking to get off the bottom with a win here. A beautiful sunny day with a strong breeze favouring the Pies' end. Travis Cloke, who kicked 0.4 last week, started the way he wanted, kicking the opening goal of the match. Leon Davis set the crowd alight with a magical mark, a contender for mark of the year, before slotting home the goal, Collingwood's fourth. Despite having all the play, their inaccuracy was hurting them. A 28 point margin was very humbling for the Power, who were absolutely smashed by the Pies, Sean Rusling was the main offender of the inaccuracy with 0.3. The second quarter was the opposite. Port Adelaide kept Collingwood scoreless and kicked four themselves. The Pies just couldn't seem to kick straight, kicking four straight behinds before Cloke, ironically, kicked his second to give them a bit of relief. A goal-for-goal situation occurred then, after four behinds, Sean Rusling finally nailed a goal and the Pies were up by 19 points. When it looked like the Pies' had total control, leading by 5 goals, the Power kicked two late ones, undoing all the good work they had done. Then Benny Johnson went down, similar to that of Harry O'Brien last week, and it was seemingly looking bad for the Pies. Now Port Adelaide had the breeze, which means a wounded Pies' side was there for the killing. Paul Stewart made sure he got the first blow for the Power, but Anthony Rocca responded in similar style. Then Salopek and Bentley added to the Pies' woes, but Chad Cornes broke a foot and maybe this could be a turning point. At the 18 minute mark, Warren Tredra kicked his third and put the Power in front. The reaction on Ben Johnson's face told the story on the final siren, the Pies' had run out of legs, as the Power, powered home by 25 points.

2008 AFL Season - Round 21
Collingwood vs Sydney @ MCG

COLLINGWOOD: 6.4 ~ 8.7 ~ 12.13 ~ 14.15 (99)
SYDNEY: 1.2 ~ 2.4 ~ 2.9 ~ 6.14 (50)

After a loss to the bottom placed Power, it was judgment day for Collingwood as they met the signed and sealed, minor premiers in the Swans, on a wet and windy day at the MCG. Collingwood won the toss and elected to go with the breeze. After a missed shot by Jarrad McVeigh, Sean Rusling made it hurt by scoring the first major seconds later. Rusling kicked his second, and like Cloke the week before, was the one guy wanting to repent for his inaccuracy for the previous week. Nick Davis replied to give the Swans a bit of hope, but then the Pies' took control of the quarter, kicking four goals in a row and leading by 32 points at quarter time. With the breeze blowing with the Swans, it was crucial for them to capitalise on it. After Jarrad McVeigh kicked the opener, the match became an arm wrestle, only for Collingwood's bad luck with injuries to continue with Josh Fraser straining a hamstring. Scott Pendlebury responded by kicking a goal and extending the margin to 32. John McCarthy also kicked a goal and the Pies were looking good despite the low scoring. Early on in the third, Brodie Holland broke an ankle and the Pies were down to 20 men. John McCarthy put through his second moments later and they were determined to win, even if they ended up with 14 fit men. A few misses went astray for both sides, in particular the Pies, but Anthony Rocca slotted his third goal and they were up by 53 points. Cameron Wood kicked an unlikely goal, working hard as the only ruckman left for the Pies'. Rocca kicked his fourth and the Pies' victory was all but there, with a 63 point lead. At three quarter time, the margin was 64 points, and Sydney had 2.9 to their name, kicking 11 goals in one quarter somehow seemed out of their grasp. Jesse White kicked the first goal of the quarter for the Swans only for Danny Stanley to return fire, shortly after. A last quarter that made them look a bit better, but only against a wounded Pies with a makeshift ruck division, Collingwood simply played better and deserved their 49 point win.

*Note: With the inclusion of Alan Toovey, every Collingwood player has now played at least one game this season.

Collingwood (3rd, 56) now play Fremantle (2nd, 60). They must win by around 55 points to finish 2nd.

A Collingwood win by under means they finish 3rd, while a loss could see them as low as fourth. So next week they will play either Fremantle at Subiaco... AGAIN. Or Sydney in Sydney.

2008 AFL Season - Round 22
Collingwood vs Fremantle @ Subiaco

COLLINGWOOD: 3.3 ~ 10.7 ~ 14.8 ~ 18.9 (117)
FREMANTLE: 6.3 ~ 12.6 ~ 23.7 ~ 28.11 (179)

A overcast day with a light breeze, was the scene for setting up the top 4. Would we be back here next week in a repeat? Or would we be in Melbourne? Or would it be a complete different match? Freo won the toss and elected to go with the breeze. Now the next 120 minutes will answer those questions. Former Magpie Chris Tarrant was the first on the board with a goal. Headland shortly followed. Pavlich made it three for the Dockers, before Cloke answered for the Pies. At quarter time, Fremantle had control by 18 points. Coach Williams placed midfielder gun, Scott Pendlebury at CHF in order to try and see if the forward line could gel a bit better. The response was immediate with Pendlebury kicking a goal. At the 20 minute mark, after a tight struggle, Pendlebury kicked his second, and the Pies led for the first time in the match. Fremantle then kicked three in a row, with a bit more of a tussle as they led by 11 points at the main break. Fremantle came out firing, kicking the first three goals before Paul Medhurst slotted one through. Collingwood's defence was utterly useless. Fremantle led by 53 points at the last change. I passed it over to my assistant to run because I was too pissed off at them.
