I'm not sure lack of explosive pace and size should be reasonable reasons not to go in the top 10. His many attributes are very appealing. But better for us I suppose.

I am. If McGuane was a live pick without explosive pace and size he needs power running, agility, skill by foot or ball handling for me to want to invest a live top 10 pick in him.

That’s 100% not me saying he won’t make it or that he won’t be a top 10 player from this draft. Rather that’s what I want from a top 10 pick who lacks size and speed. The best case comparison would be to Smith and I don’t know if he has the same elite step, ball handling or ball winning.

Everything I’ve seen projects him to be that small tier back come draft night. It’s not insurmountable between now and draft night or once in the system, but I can appreciate why recruiters could have that view.

Tbf it’s been noted that he is elite by foot and hand. Is a runner. I don’t know much about his ability results from the combine.
Is dual sided on both feet. Has a massive IQ and has a side step that’s tantalising. Has enough qualities.
Obviously doesn’t matter to us where he is rated. We can get him cheaply for huge upside.

It does say they believe he can jump into the top 10 or slide. Guess we shall see how his year pans out, if he can elevate himself higher.

Let Cornes and Ralphy lead the charge - a second round pick for sure!
Season 16 Nbc GIF by America's Got Talent

I've seen enough to be happy to spend a very low pick on him!

Jen2310 Do you know if Mark Williams has a son draft eligible this year and if so would we have access to him? Thanks.
Haven't heard about them. He has two sons. Isaac, Marcus and Louis, but not sure of their ages or where they are playing. May not be any good.

Ah thanks. There’s a Kobe Williams listed on an Instagram post as a son of Mark Williams, must be the Hawthorn one, should’ve checked sorry.

I just thought it looked a little like him.

Yeah, I saw that. Any sons of Mark would only be eligible to us and port.

With his wife Pauline and children Marcus, 29, Georgie, 26, Isaac, 22, Louis, 20 and Isabelle, 11 settled in Melbourne now

This is 2019, so guess no young sons.

So I checked, which admittedly should’ve done first.

Its the Hawthorn Mark Williams from the 2000’s.

I think generally, people may want to pump the brakes on the Errol Gulden comparisons with Tom McGuane - I'll be ecstatic to be proven wrong on this, but I doubt that he'll play with the same kind of long-kicking footskills or electric pace that Gulden possesses.

I see him as more of Caleb Serong-type, but Serong is more inside at this stage. If that area of McGuane's game doesn't develop, maybe more of a Darcy Parish. I know nobody dreams of getting "the next Darcy Parish" but realistically that would mean that's essentially a walk up start for 10+ years, which is a top 1% outcome for a footy prospect.

He'll be just tommy. Just has to be who he is. But he said he does model his game off the likes of gulden and Merrett.

By the middle of the season, everyone will have heard of Tom. He dominated last year as an under ager, he's even stronger this year.

Agree. He had an impressive bottom age year. Now he's starting to put on size, I think we'll see him starting to dominate.
His average disposal count was 26 last year. I won't be surprise to see that rise.

Not too much I hope but honestly, he dominates at any level he plays. BTW, his pace is more than adequate for AFL.

Dandenong:

Oscar Lonie, the son of ex-Magpie Ryan, has shown significant improvement this pre-season. The Collingwood father-son prospect has a raking kick like his dad and should spend time all over the ground this season.

Oakleigh:

key forward Zac McCarthy is linked to Collingwood as an NGA player.
Has had a big summer and featured in a recent VFL intraclub for Collingwood.
MID-SEASON DRAFT WATCH

Key defender Lucas Tovey has returned to the Chargers as a 19-year-old, as has midfielder Douglas Kerr who is coming back from an ACL injury.

Jets:

Tom McGuane – will dominate the headlines and be watched closely by Collingwood fans across the season.

McGuane, the son of Collingwood best and fairest and News Corp football analyst Mick, is an accumulating and clever midfielder who racked up some big disposal tallies for the Jets in 2024.

He averaged 26 disposals and 18 uncontested possessions for the Jets last season and played six senior games at Keilor, where his dad is senior coach.

Obviously there are a couple more NGAs they don't mentioned, prob more so because we havent seen anything from them last year.
Seb Wolff, who last played for Oakleigh in U16, but wasn't in the squad last year as a bottom ager. Played for Balwyn and Carey last year.

Jai Sexena, first year in the system I think.

Obviously Doug and Luke Quaynor as overagers.

We'd have father son access to Mark Williams's kids. Does he have a couple who can play? That would be hilarious. Port fans would flip out.

Indigenous small forward - Jai Sexena
I don't really know anything about him, but I remember his name being on the nga list they had on the website (which has been taken down, as they are prob working on updating it for the 2025 list)
Jai Saxena: not indigenous, but of Indian origin: https://www.instagram.com/thebharat_fc/p/DHnJRvaSQ-a/?img_index=1

He played for the World team against the Flying Boomerangs back in 2023, so definitely not indigenous.

Hopefully they move Oscar up the ground. Mid or wing. Being a forward can be a tough job especially in U18 where kids can be selfish. I'd like to see him involved, around the ball. It says does he has been spending time all around the ground this pre-season.

Be interesting if he becomes a prospect.

I think he's more like a newer Tom Mitchell ball magnet type. Not fast, just racks up possessions.

His knocks will pace and size.

He's a bit more versatile, though he did average 18 contested possessions last year. But he's smart. Can play wing, half forward. He would make it a focus to put on some size this year and work on more the contested side of the game.
