Which year does Nick take out the Colliers?

Which year does Nick take out the Colliers?
Our bad luck for a few decades was always bound to change.
We dominated the competition for over 50 years.
Hopefully it's these next couple of decades.

Playing in more than 1/3rd of all GF's ever played in all history is an insane stat.

Opposition fans are scared..

It wasn't bad luck fat one. In most cases, we weren't good enough.

And if you thought things were always bound to change, you weren't around in the late 80s, when we were 30 years beyond the last premiership. It wasn't so relaxed 10 minutes into the last quarter in 1990 when doug barwick kicked a goal that put us about 7 goals in front and many Pie supporters including myself finally started thinking that the drought had ended. It's not a casual ying and yang thing about these premierships. This one might be the last one that I'll see in my lifetime and the last one for you too. It's the only thing that really matters in sport. Other losses are forgotten in time. Outcomes in grand finals are never forgotten.

Very nice work! I see you have Leon Davis named on the list, and (unless something has changed recently and I didn't hear about it!) I don't believe he is classed as a premiership player. The fact that he received a medal after we'd won the flag in 2010 would have caused many people to think he was officially classed as a PP (I see his Wiki page even says he is one). I was puzzled when the 2011 AFL Season Guide came out to see that his name wasn't on the all-time premiership player list. I checked with the book's editor, who had it confirmed from the AFL folks that he wasn't considered to be a premiership player. His name still isn't on the latest version of the list in the 2023 AFL Season Guide, BTW.

Thanks.

Not sure of Leon’s status as a premiership player or not. For now, I’ve taken him off the list.

I’d forgotten Teddy Lockwood (1902, 1903) so he’s been added to the list.

On the Ch7 post-match GF coverage, they said we had 199 premiership players in our club’s history.

There is a certain irony that the AFL awarded Leon Davis a premiership medal for playing in the draw yet don’t count him as a premiership player. It’s a bit like being included on the council but not given the rank of master

This is a fascinating point to what I believe, personally, is a controversial subject worthy of deeper consideration by the AFL in recognizing individuals of a Premiership club.

Having grown up with the NFL here, the process for giving Super Bowl rings (i.e. the closest comparison to the Premiership Medals) is very different. In fact, there really isn't a rule apart from the fact that a Super Bowl winning team will be eligible to order 150 rings and no parameters are set on who those 150 individuals are.

Now I completely understand the Premiership Medals are part of a ceremony dating back to the origins of the league itself. But this internal strife brought about through not making the cut to being selected is rather brutal. "It is what it is. You just have to suck it up and deal with it and come back next time." Insert your favorite cliche here. Is that really the point?

Is it time to consider the Medal Presentation obsolete due to the fact the game has grown, the teams have grown and there are many others, in a club, who are instrumental in that Premiership who do not get presented a medal. In turn, what message gets delivered to them while their teammates get to stand on stage?

Whether it be a medal, a ring or whatever, just give them 150 (or some reasonable quantity) and let the team issue them to their players and staff as they see fit - problem solved.

Peace!

They could continue to present medals to the 23 who play on the day on the ground after the game, and the club can give the balance to whoever they like.

well if we're going to use american sport as a template, I believe that the NFL trophy is presented to the OWNER. Have a look at this presentation and see if it sickens you not to see a player on the dias until well after the trophy has been presented. The owner's family is behind him...I think....what a joke.

We get a lot of people in here telling us how american sports do things better. I dont think this is one of those times.

PS the content is blocked....no great loss.

Wow… 12 players were involved in every win in the fourpeat between 1927 and 1930. Two were premiership players in 3 out of four and two in two out of four.

Talk about list stability!
It's worth noting that 1927-29 there were only 18 men in a side (19 in 1930), which makes it even better. It was a remarkable run, that's for sure!

All 4 wins 1927-30 (12):

1698501836718.png
1698501922825.png
3 wins (2):

2 wins (6):

1698486183446.png
1 win (7):

So 27 players in those 4 years were premiership players (73 wins between them).

199 individuals can call themselves Collingwood Premiership players.

It's extra satisfying to see Pendles and Sidebottom now become 2x Premiership players, the first Collingwood players to do so since the 1950s.

Rare air.
Only right that both Pendles and Sidebottom a dual winners.

Let's make it triple winners and add a lot of dual winners next year.

Reading this thread, hard to believe no Collingwood player made the AFL team of the century.
Should be an official apology.
Straight to The Hague for those responsible.

Peace!

Premiership medals definitely do not date back to the “origins of the league itself”. Early doors, the winners, including the coach were given caps. In the past, the Pies have struck medals themselves.
