It is now well over six decades since the Magpies last achieved September glory. An astonishing and humbling statistic for the biggest football club in the land.
And with the dream of that elusive 16th premiership in 2023 quickly becoming a delusion, I am starting to feel some genuine sympathy for the long suffering black and white army.
Which is why I am getting in early before the inevitable Grand Final defeat (providing they don't shit the bed in the prelim) to throw my full and unconditional support behind Colin Carter's push to have their 1896 triumph included in their official premiership tally.
The Pies were absolutely magnificent that day. Champions on every line against a powerful Bloods side, with whom they had previously shared the spoils in a round 16 thriller at the South Melbourne Cricket ground!
The fact that this year has been all but wiped from the history books offends me because it is wrong!, and an absolute insult to the Collingwood heroes of that time.
So, let's all get behind Colin's very noble cause of honoring the legends of the past with the respect and dignity which they deserve, and give our long suffering Collingwood brothers and sisters finally something to cheer about this September .
A magnificent team lost in the sands of time
