According to Emma Quayle, Mitch Clark's making more money than any player on Geelong's list, that includes Bartel, Selwood, Chapman & Johnson.

Tom Rockliff wrote on his Twitter, "I guess money can cure anything".

It's fair to say after Clark's statement on Fremantle's website, and his actions that followed, he is motivated by greed. For a club that needs to build a strong culture, the Dees went about this the wrong way. Get ready for a very comfortable Mitch Clark in the next few years, without loyalty, commitment and integrity Melbourne are now left with a tattooed lump of clay that will plod in their forward line for the occasional 30 goals a year. Hardly worth 3.2 Million dollars (if that is the correct amount).

ignoring the mini shite fest over this deal between supporters..atleast something happened in trade week for us to talk about!!!!

Or perhaps deal talks broke down with Freo and Clark didn't want to go to the PSD?

There are clearly fans of other teams getting a bit jealous over this result. Their own administrations would have liked Clark too (which team doesn't want athletic talls entering their prime?) but didn't show enough aggression - Melbourne did. Melbourne aren't usually aggressive, but today we were. And it worked. What was meant to be the off-season from hell for the Dees, has turned into the best off-season I can remember in my time following the club (says more about the club than I'd like to admit but its the truth).

Now if the Doggies would just kindly offer their first round pick for Matty Bate, we can really start popping the champagne.

And at least Aaron DAvey isn't the highest paid player at the club anymore.

over-rated?

a 23 year old tall forward who can play in the ruck, kicks goals, with a 197cm big body to take the load off watts and jurrah being the no 1 key forward, is aggressive, was in the all australian squad two years back and was unlucky to miss out, should be entering his prime as an afl footballer, is being paid $200k per annum less than we were going to pay scully, and we're only giving up pick 12 for him in the most compromised draft of all time that's also been called the weakest of all time?

nah, this is the best possible result for the mfc. i've always rated clark and i reckon he is EXACTLY what the mfc need. we hold onto our two compo picks next year to activate in a strong draft, one of which will be jack viney, scully's logical replacement, and someone who those in the know say is one of the most determined players he's ever seen at junior level.

this is the first time since jeff white that i can remember the dees landing a big fish. thank god we missed out on hale and warnock now - clark is a miles better player and his age should be perfect for our squad's rise back up the ladder.

huge get. as big kev would say, i'm excited.

Brissy fans, his ability to take a hanger seems pretty well developed. Its been a bit of an issue for the Demons the past two years, in that we struggle to find a tall target that can reliably take a grab.

Is Clark consistent in the air? I don't anticipate he'll be kicking bags of goals, but if he is able to regularly take a grab around the ground, then we've filled a massive hole in our list.

He's very good at taking a mark on the wing/half forward flank. His efforts to be a reliable target in the forward line not so good as he struggles to get a break on the lead. Contested marking (ie if he gets in a wrestle) is hit and miss.

Classic Schwab written all over that one.

Good luck to the guy and Melbourne, but happy that Schwab is a distant memory at freo.

Schwab has nothing to do with the football department.

And Schwab has done an amazing job at Melbourne, and did the same for Freo.

One of the best administrators in the game.

Cool. I can see him being used sporadically as our target when we're coming outside of defence then. Something we definitely need.

Mitch is a pretty good mark on the lead :thumbsu:
as far in the middle of a huge pack not really
can be really stupid sometimes jumping into team mates backs:eek:

Thing is you guys also need a Ruck. Jamar isn't too young, and is seriously injury prone. So it isn't a bad get for you in that he IS a good ruck and is better around the ground then big Stefan.

No, we don't.

Stefan Martin played his best footy as a first ruck.

Jamar is 27, granted.

But I'd imagine he still has 3-4 years of good footy left.

Gawn is exciting and Fitzpatrick could be anything if we develop him correctly.

We are paying overs for him but lets put this into perspective:
- We have one of the youngest lists in the AFL and our highest paid player is (Davey we believe) on roughly $500k,
-Green is the only player over 30 and we have locked away all decent players (trengove etc) on contracts for 2 or more year.
-We had 2.4 million to keep Scully, we are no where near the Salary cap and have used the money on a player that makes a big difference to our structure.
-We will front load the contract. In 2 years he will be on $400k
-Trade Matty Bate and there is half his Salary for 2012 there
-He fits our needs beautifully
-Not many better ruck/forward combos in the AFL now than Jamar/Clark
-We finally landed a blow in trade week

Sums it up for me. Very happy about this. :thumbsu:

He's getting 600k a year apparently.

That will be front loaded in 2012.

He'll be on 350-450 for the majority of his contract.

I think you're also drawing a bit of a long bow here, Clark is a professional and I'm sure he'll put in 100% for the club.

I guess we'll wait and see, I do hope it works out for you guys though...not too much of course ;)

Melb trades Travis Johnstone and receives pick 12(actually 14) (Jack Grimes) :thumbsu:

Melb trades Brock McLean and receives pick 12(actually 11) (Jordan Gysberts) :thumbsu:

Melb trades pick 12 for Mitch Clark (third time lucky ?) :thumbsu:
