Just a question on list management with the rookies:

From memory, if we want to pay rookies more than the rookie wage, we can do so, and it's outside the cap?

If we're looking at upgrading some of our rooks in the next few years, would we be able to pay them say, 300k extra outside the cap as a kind of advance pay, then in the future when we negotiate a contract with them they sign for the same amount less than what we would normally pay them, hence saving space in our salary cap?

Might be wrong with the payments outside of the cap thing, which is kind of the basis for the strategy. Anyone know?

• Clancee is a big question mark
• It seems with the new rules we can have 40 senior list players (if two are vets outside the list - I have nominated Pav and McPharlin just for numbers, although it could well be Pav/Sandi)
• So we have our 4 rookies (or is Moller outside the rookie list, in which case we would have one rookie pick, and possibly two if Clancee is upgraded?).
• The senior list currently has 37 players, which means two players have to be delisted if we want to use picks 17, 37 and 40 on youngsters - and a third player will need to go to be able to upgrade Clancee.
• The one free spot we have right now = pick 17.
• I'm assuming Ibbotson will stay and get a new 2 year contract.
• Roberton is gone - there's pick 37.
• One of Faulks or Crichton getting cut gives us pick 40.
• The other one getting delisted = upgrade for Clancee.
• If they decide to keep Clancee on the rookie list (bit harsh given he played 24 games and finished top 10 in the Doig), then one of Faulks or Crichton gets to stay.
• Will there be space for Clancee to be a 'nominated rookie' or have they done away with this for next year?

So upshot is:

Likely 3 "live" picks in the ND + Spurr and Clancee upgrades = 5 total
If Moller is outside the rookie list, then it's 1 rookie draft pick; if Clancee is upgraded then it's 2 rookie picks; if Moller is counted and Clancee stays on the rookie list, it's zero picks in the rookie draft.

Anywhere between 3-5 new players will come in via the draft this year.

Unless they cut Anthony with a year to run on his contract - then all the above changes...

He is going to get cut. He won't play a game next year. His salary will still be in the cap. so why not free up the spot (most likely for Clancee)

You would think that Lower will be re-rookied??? Otherwise we pay him out... OR, we got it wrong, and he was elevated at the end of last year on just a one year contract. Can anyone confirm?
