Yes, but vaccinations have never been mandated across such a broad scope of the population in the way the covid vaccine was mandated by state governments in Australia.

Trying to compare pre-covid mandates regarding vaccination in health care settings such as hospitals for instance, and then using that as a platform to justify the extent to which the government mandated covid vaccinations across an entire population is clearly not an equal comparison and quite frankly a redundant process.
Of course it isn't equal. This was our first pandemic in a hundred years.

Severe disease or death within 28 days occurred for 977 (29%) of 3,369 unvaccinated patients and 269 (22%) of 1,230 patients with history of vaccination or prior SARS-CoV-2 infection. Among unvaccinated patients, the relative risk of severe disease or death for Delta variant compared to ancestral lineages was 1.30 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.11-1.49). Compared to Delta, this risk for Omicron patients was 0.72 (95% CI 0.59-0.88) and compared to ancestral lineages was 0.94 (95% CI 0.78-1.1). Among Omicron and Delta infections, patients with history of vaccination or prior SARS-CoV-2 infection had half the risk of severe disease or death (adjusted hazard ratio 0.40, 95% CI 0.30-0.54), but no significant outcome difference by variant.
Conclusions
Although risk of severe disease or death for unvaccinated inpatients with Omicron was lower than Delta, it was similar to ancestral lineages. Severe outcomes were less common in vaccinated inpatients, with no difference between Delta and Omicron infections.

No, because all these idiots care about is trying to score points on the interwebs. Not once have they displayed any concern for people suffering and dying from covid, or experiencing long covid, but as soon as someone makes a claim that the numbers of vaccine related injuries may be underreported they come crawling out of the woodwork beating their chests claiming vindication. As if they give a rat's tossbag about anyone "vaccine injured", it's all about getting likes from the peanut gallery. Papa G let us know very early on he doesn't even care if his own parents die from covid. That's the kind of mindset here.
Narrator: They didn't.

So then why have you mentioned it earlier in an attempt to justify the government's clear overreach?

Which bits specifically were overreach?

Let's start with needing the green tick at Adelaide Oval and then having all spectators crammed together in half a dozen sections of the ground.
Needing your green tick to go to a restaurant and then needing a mask to walk from the entrance to your table whereby you can then take it off because covid doesn't exist once you sit down.
How about the mandates that said courier drivers who literally spend 30 seconds in a facility dropping off or picking up items required covid vaccination - despite all health "experts" claiming one needed to spend much longer than 30 seconds in order to transmit or pick up the virus.
What about the government's mandates for covid vaccination in certain facilities that even if their workers worked from home or worked remotely by themselves - they too required vaccination as a "just in case" measure should they for the rarest of reasons ever require entry into their workplace.

Let's start there...

That ****ing week long complete shutdown. Absolutely unnecessary. Masked police patrolling the streets like we were under martial law. Completely dystopian. Government over reach came and kicked us in the face, for what very quickly became apparent for no justifiable reason and so many of you liked it. Frightening how easily people can be controlled. Mandated. Denounced. As I've said before, very 1984.

There's a documentary on Netflix at the moment called Don't Pick Up the Phone.
Basically a prank caller masquerading as a police officer would ring up fast food establishments and tell the manager that one of the staff had stolen something from a customer and they needed to be searched. The manager would then take orders from this person that started with emptying the employees pockets and end up with a full body search, clothes removed and sexual assault. All for the caller's gratification.
When the managers were later interviewed to explain why they did it, they couldn't really explain why, just that they were doing what they were told.

It's amazing what people will do and what they won't question when it's a person of authority telling them to.

Yeah, but it was only for a week. Overly cautious yes, but once it was done it was done and things went back to relative normalcy. (Well, apart from Melbo but you expect them to go overboard with everything.)

It was only a week...... mmmmm, let's see how that plays out..... see what they will take.....see what their fear will make them comply with.... how far can we push it.....

I understand the cucks on here will completely ridicule the "Slippery Slope" argument, but I'm sure there were plently who thought that in 1930's Germany, 1920's Russia, 1950's China, 1970's Cambodia and about a bazillion other times it's happened throughout history.

Or China right now.

What a drama queen.

A lot of the frustration is because the end result was everyone caught covid anyway. And the results of catching covid has been underwhelming.

How dare they during the bombing of London tell the population to black out windows and head to shock horror bomb shelters. How easily the populace was controlled.
Clear over reach . Clear dress rehearsal for a Dictatorship.. said no one.

Previously the dumbest comparison in this thread was made between leaky vaccines and seatbelts.
You've just bettered that by comparing government overreach during covid-19 to people taking measures to avoid being flattened by the Luftwaffe.

Breathtakingly stupid.

... and we're now back to living life normally.

What's the problem?

Illogical example.

We are still treating the elderly like they have the Plague.

We are still treating the elderly like they have the Plague.

Correction. We're treating those that work with the elderly like they have the plague.

Masking is acceptable and not ridiculed?
More compliant population so more willing to take personal responsibility without it being forced upon them?
Respect for the elderly?
More orderly society?
Healthier population?

I live in Japan. Most people masked for 3 years straight. We have had massive swings and some of the highest numbers in the world in 2022. Masks are just about compliance here. Lower Body Mass Index and a much stricter definition of what constitutes a “covid death,” was a few of the reasons for lower numbers early on.
