Continued in Part 6:

I have no idea how this country will ever be able to rejoin the world when it acts like this over what is a handful of cases, after 16 months this country is still petrified of its own shadow.
Couldn't agree more. Something that has an incredibly high survival rate as well. It's utterly bullshit how reactive and how quickly these absolute parasites close down borders and businesses. Australia will never be the same.

What's the point of a vaccine? If you get it, you still have to follow the rules, wear those ****ing stupid masks. If they came out and said if you get vaccinated you're exempt from the rules, I'd reconsider my decision not to get the vaccine.

But you can still get it and pass it on, straight from the mouth of NSW health. So chief what is plan b going to be.

Because it is impossible to vaccinate 100% of a population at any given time due to medical, logistical and logical reasons, there would always be COVID there, somewhere. Just like we have the flu circulating in humans for eons now - I and hopefully many others accept that COVID may just be yet another respiratory virus we have to deal with. From what I've read and monitored, most if not all vaccines are successful in reducing hospitalisations (some near 100%), and reduces the ability of people to spread it even if they contract COVID.

However, the sensible approach is to vaccinate enough such that having everything open would result in death tolls and hospitalisation rates that are nowhere near as ghoulish as we're seeing elsewhere in the world. New York just celebrated (with fireworks and everything) having 70% of their adult population vaccinated - that could be a baseline before we start seeing free international travel. Who knows - eventually there may be an omega variant that becomes dominant because it is highly contagious but also rarely fatal.

I'm not psychic, but it makes sense that vaccinations are our only realistic exit from 'the new normal' as it is a guarantee of reduced loads on health systems and more publicly acceptable casualty rates. I don't hold out hope for a cure, but I do hold out hope for widespread vaccination such that it becomes manageable and yet another yearly health issue we accept into our lives.

This is the same for any disease you’ve been vaccinated against.

Do you get it?

It is very rare. Much lower probability than without vaccination.

Stop listening to nutters.

incredibly high survival rate
Car crashes have a higher survival rate today than in the past.

Guess we don’t need speed limits, seat belts, and air bags. They’re just a waste, aren’t they?

Here you go.
'Melbourne bars and restaurants – as well as weddings and funerals – will be able to host up to 300 people inside in a major easing of city restrictions to be announced on Wednesday, but masks will still be required indoors.
Up to 50 people will be able to get together outside and the limit on home gatherings will also be increased from the current two adult visitors.

Large crowds are expected to be allowed at community sports matches.

And the capacity for offices will be lifted to 75 per cent, although Melburnians will continue to be advised to work from home if they can.

Funerals will be capped at 300 mourners, the same number as for weddings.

While the cap for hospitality venues is increasing significantly, the maximum one person per four square metres density quotient will continue.

And those heading to the snow will still be required to prove they have had a negative Covid-19 test less than 72 hours prior to departing, including children as young as three.

That rule, which has angered ski field operators, is not expected to be reviewed for at least another week.

Regional Victoria is also set to experience a further easing of restrictions.'
Appreciate it

Maybe you should stop listening to governments who shit their dacks at the mere mention of covid.

This was Bretty boy a week or so ago when asked......

1. if 70% of the adult population is vaccinated will lockdowns end

He said: " no I can't guarantee that "

2. Do we need to learn to live with covid

He said: " no that is an impossibility "

Until these governments change their mindset we aren't moving on with shit while they panic over even 1 case and vaccination won't change that, maybe you people need to stop thinking the jab is the end game for this country, it isn't.

Also not sure if anyone cares, but WA from tomorrow will have no restrictions apart from the ongoing international travel bans (and the temporary Victorian and possibly new NSW soft border). This means no capacity limits, every event can go on as usual (including the Royal Show in two weeks) and no mask requirements apart from the usual at airports.

Direct quotes from Brett Sutton about number 2? It sounds like a weird response, because it certainly can be lived with if enough people get vaccinated. Look at the US, UK etc.

I understand not guaranteeing an end of any lockdowns once 70% is reached because people who could otherwise safely become vaccinated become complacent and count on someone else to get vaccinated if they choose not to for whatever reason.

Nope, no one cares, because it's all very fleeting.

Pollies will be happy though. Gives them extra time to go slow with the roll out of the vaccines while the plebs are happy.

I'm hardly a scoreboard watcher these days in regards to rona cases compared to April 2020 but surely everyone has to be watching how this plays out in Sydney and hoping for the best. If the "gold standard" can contain without significant measures against the beast hopefully everyone else won't be so harsh on border closures next six months.

Alternately giving people a firm target might whip people into action?

I think its more to do with hedging bets personally. Bretts quick to whip out "the beast" when it serves him but real gunshy on targets for ending lockdowns.

It's why businesses have KPIs. You need to specify targets to focus people's actions towards achieving them. So much of vaccine hesitancy is among people who feel it won't make any difference to future restrictions, precisely because our governments are being so vague on targets.

One thing that does drive me nuts with the COVID restrictions is the delay on events and ticket purchasing.

Melb United have game 3 of the NBL finals series here on Friday and we still have no idea how many (if any) will be allowed to attend.

Id rather they just made the call now that no crowds (or 10% or whatever) than wait until the 11th hour to decide. Same goes for the footy.

Well due to some gold standard **** flying from Sydney to Wellington and return while positive, Wellington is in stage 2 lockdown until Sunday night which is kind of making my ex's flight on Sunday morning look dodgy. **** me.
