Imagine if we'd had, I don't know, 18 months to prepare our health departments for this.
Biggest capacity constraint is staffing and you can't pull fully trained doctors and nurses out of thin air in 18 months

Even if you had 10 years' warning there would be limits to scalability - you can't train more ICU doctors and nurses than you have baseline patients, because without a regular patient load they deskill in a matter of weeks

But I've said this and similar before in this thread, nobody cares

Yeah the playgrounds are usually empty or maybe a clue of kids prior to lockdown....you go now and usually a few families minimum. They ceased pretty much as soon as lockdown is released as well.

Same as the families who now walk together or ride bikes together....when I've never noticed them doing either prior to covid

Well wouldn’t kids normally play at school with their friends?

It’s not exactly surprising that they start doing it if they can’t go to school in person.

Just lock them inside on their iPads all day. She'll be right.

Not like young kids ever get overly energetic and need to run around.

I think that's a lie to give us light at the end of the tunnel. Once we hit 80% they will reassess and if it's still bad they'll go back into lockdowns (if it's the popular thing to do as per the electorate) and blame the latest variant that's currently out.
And then we'll be told nothing can be opened up until we all get the booster which has been adjusted/strengthened to cope with Delta and later variants. Which is on order. And due in September 2022.

Because there is not enough vaccine.
Maybe they should stop telling people to get vaccinated then. Kind of frustrating to be told that the only way out is to have everyone vaccinate, and that we all must go and do it now, but there are no appointments available and probably won't be for months.

How they expect to have everyone vaccinated by Christmas has me beat.

I was able to get an appointment within 3 days last week. Surely they're not that full up.

So whats going to happen when we open up at 80% vaccinated?

We’re 73% vaccinated in British Columbia. Case numbers have been ramping up. Hospital numbers have increased but not to the level where it’s overwhelming things. Around 5,000 active cases in the Province and 50 people in ICU.

I doubt we accept those numbers and there is NO chance that McGowan lets WA reach those types of case numbers. We are a divided country no matter what national cabinet agrees on.

Again. WHY GET VACCINATED?

The 80% modelling was for 30 or 40 cases not 600
I would think there will be vax passports introduced and the ones vaxed will be able to do things
Probably still have NSW locked out of the rest of Australia though until we all get vaxed up and their numbers drop

TBH I don't think people will stand for it.
Any lockdowns that would be necessary after we begin living with the virus will be solely to protect the capacity of the healthcare system - not aiming to achieve COVID zero. The metrics are very different which means the likely length and nature of the restrictions will also be different. Of course, the best result is achieving high rates of vaccination to avoid this scenario at all - which is what the modelling is based on.

The vast majority of people understand this - which is why, as difficult as it may be, they will support it. The anti-lockdown nuffies will, of course, lapse back into a state of complete discombobulation - but that's to be expected.

There's already a significant number of people who are fatigued by the constant lockdowns and governments will come under increasing pressure from business groups and people to start opening up again.
Along with her own political posturing, pressure from business groups is why Gladys didn't lockdown, and why we are still dealing with COVID in Vic. While we are in a pandemic, business groups should focus on supporting businesses as best possible (given the circumstances) - and not pressuring leaders or calling the shots.

Victoria only has 24 positive cases today, one of them is a sex worker.

I'll be all over the Tier1 exposure sites this afternoon .......

Juicy!

Some broken marriages in the next 24-48 hours :D

Those who understand get it, and those that don't don't. Convincing nutters based on evidence and numbers doesn't work Caesar
