I, for one, welcome the demise of the "soldier on" mindset.

Now we just need to convince management that a medical certificate for a single day's absence is a crock of sh*t.

I have to do some reading up here but I was under the impression that you get a certain number of sick days per year without a med cert.

Or is that overwritten in a work contract?

what makes you think the process used to record death is going to do a 180 for the next 2k deaths

I've been asking you for evidence not just your hypothesis based on tweets because there are rules for how deaths are recorded

Also point me to where the report says those deaths that don't fit your narrative are predominantly Delta?

Australia only hit 2700 deaths mid January, this isn't really old data and you've been banging this drum for longer than that
2700 deaths mid January- 4700 now.

I know its going to be different because we had these 2700 deaths with case numbers in the hundreds a day.

With the next 2000 we have had hundreds of thousands of cases a day.
This means the potential for 'incidental covid' is increased by 1000 times.

Edit*
Most of the 422 are Delta deaths because as yu yourself have said deaths trail infections by a month or so.

No idea, but it sounds nice. In the old days it was if you took say three days or a week off, obviously it was serious enough to go to the quack, so bring in a certificate. Last main employer, HR brought in the "all absences must have a sick note" which resulted in "if I've had a shit weekend and can't have a day in bed to finish getting better, and the earliest I can get a doctor's appointment is Wednesday, then I guess I'll see you Thursday."

depends where you work
for us Friday, Monday, next to public holiday or two days in a row.
I know a few people who move days around so they do not have to go to docs.
Depends on your manager.
edit Also where I work now they been checking you logon on everyday. A report comes out.
A few people caught out not putting sick days in.
Mate told me trick with mouse and analogue watch like below.. Be why he is green all the time and does not reply :) he he

With sniffles sister in-law works creche.. Said many parents drop kids off and run.
They also get kids who parents dose up just before drop off with Nurofen

Bit silly when managers get so stuck in to this stuff.

I've only had a couple of jobs in my adult life and when I was in my mid 20s if I had a bender and was self inflicted unwell I'd generally call my boss/direct report and explain the truth and I'd get waved by.

But that might only happen 1-2 times in a year - where some people are just very regular sickies

we getting off topic.. Although I worked with a few people who use Annual Leave for booked holidays.
Then use up their Sick leave for anything else they want to do.
Lots of places you can use for Mental Health, Carers leave or Personal leave.
10 days are allocated.. Even if most businesses prefer you to use none. 10 days a year allocated.
Prob depends on where you work.. Work mate has 9 months of sick leave owing which is mad.
I have something like 40 days.

LjU48m.gif

still need to wear masks in the office.

Fair work lol thats a bullshit name for a government website if ever there was one says any absence can require a certificate or stat declaration if your employer requires it otherwise they don't have to let you access your sick leave

Basically depending on how much of a campaigner your boss is it can be a real pain

This is all speculation on your part again

Yep. Last job I had they brought in one day off must have doctors certificate or no pay. Getting the appointment was the stumbling block, which the company well knew, so people came in when sick. I surely hope those days are over.

now just go in and start coughing, a bit of heavy breathing , do lots of push ups before entering work and bring up a sweat.
Mention you went to 10 bunnings yesterday for some strange reason.
They send you home fast :)

Speculation is not quite the right term.
Its actually extrapolation.

We know that the 2639 deaths came from aprox 500,000 (the total cases by early Jan) and of these 83 were completely unrelated to their covid positive status.
Now though the official case numbers sit around 5 million (in fact the real number is 10 million plus but we wont worry about that for the moment).

Here is where the basic extrapolation comes in.

83 unrelated from 500k cases
=
830 unrelated from 5 million cases.

And just for lulz...

1640 from 10 million cases.

Once again Covid kills people.
Delta in particular kills unvaxxed people and continues to do so.
All my argument has ever been is Omicron is very mild in comparison (this doesn't make it harmless just no longer a public health emergency).

Thanks for linking the ABS report to further strengthen my argument.

Govt employee, i think we get 3 sick days a year without a docs note (or stat dec) and then however many others require a note.

TBH i think its actually intended to give managers some discretion for serial absenteeism. My direct manager has trust in me to not abuse leave and has never asked me for a cert for anything. I think in the same vein as "if you have a prick boss this would be shit" if you were a manager that had a campaigner employee who always called in sick it would also be shit.

yeah but most places have limited sick leave so that person would be calling in sick and not getting paid

also the last couple of years have made it very hard to get a doctors cert for a day off and it wasn't that easy before depending on where you live

we've got no hope of getting a same day appointment anywhere around here, basically ****ed if I need a cert

Oh yeh, i think continuing it now is idiotic. I technically had to take non cert leave (which would have meant i lost my 3 days of non certified leave) when i had COVID even though i had a DOH case number.

Im not necessarily advocating for it just noting i think at its absolute base intent its supposed to provide some protection for managers for serial absenteeism. The extremes in both scenarios (managers being dicks and staff abusing it) have made it shit.

yeah I've got the DOH case number but think they are going to refuse to convert my annual leave into sick leave because I didn't go and get a doctors certificate over new years at the peak of the mess

Not sure about this one

I think it's valid to point out that the heights that some predicted didn't quite eventuate but the article is written as though there was no cause for concern either. Or that the actions the govt took did nothing at all to reduce exposure.
