Avoiding a question about non-UN member Taiwan is something but not quite corruption.
It just goes to show that WHO protects China's best interests.
Meanwhile Chinese wet markets selling bats, dogs and the like are able to carry on.
Do you see the point im getting at here.
If you can't see the corruption in all of that then I don't know what to say

Not quite.

Taiwan is not a member of the United Nations (UN) or its suborganizations, but it aspires to participate. China opposes this. It argues, correctly, that only sovereign states can enjoy membership in the UN; any state that manages to enter into the UN system as a full member in its own right is seen by the other member states as a fully-fledged independent country. China also claims Taiwan as part of its territory and denies that Taiwan is a sovereign state. China is adamant about preventing recognition of Taiwan as a sovereign state and its membership in the UN system. So far China has been successful in this endeavor. Membership – the highest form of participation – in the United Nations is inextricably linked with the question of sovereignty. Both China and Taiwan are highly aware of this problem, therefore for both sides the question of UN membership and other forms of participation for Taiwan has never lost its sensitivity. However, over time the nature of the question has changed: from a fight about which government – the People’s Republic of China (PRC) with its seat in Beijing or the Republic of China (ROC) with its capital in Taipei – was the sole legitimate representative of China in the world, it has since the early 1990s evolved into consideration of whether the UN would not be able to accommodate both in some way. While Taiwan, since the early 1990s, would favor such a solution, although not necessarily on the basis of full membership status, China adamantly refuses to move away from its position that Taiwan is part of China and thus cannot be represented on its own in the world’s most prestigious and important state-based international organization. China has the advantage in that it is a member of the United Nations, and is one of the five permanent members of the Security Council; it also enjoys increasing international clout outside the UN system.

This is an interesting reaction to someone pushing the line that Taiwan is an independent area and not China to someone who very much wants to remain in the good books of China.

Although not unexpected.
Someone who wants to remain in the good books of China, so they:
-Don't condemn China for covering up the outbreak for 3 weeks until a whistle blower broke it, at risk to their own safety
-Spread misinformation from China regarding the nature and severity of the virus (i.e. it can't be transmitted from person-to-person)
-Laud China for their approach to controlling the virus through strict lockdowns (i.e. welding people in their homes) while simultaneously telling other countries not to restrict travel from China, discouraging some from getting a head start at curtailing the spread

Seems like the WHO is only out to serve the interests of one member state.

Wet markets carry on all through Asia what do you want to do build them a few more Woolies ?

I think you will find people got CoVid from the market as they did at the church and the mosques and choir practice and the local supermarket because people gathered there that had it.

The farming practices that allowed bat to pangolin transfer was the cause but that occurred at the farm and the disease was bought to the market by sick people probably by some who showed no symptoms.

Fantastic. How would you rate China's performance in suppressing the initial information about this virus that could have stopped all this madness?
Fine effort id say.

From memory, isn’t the head of WHO and Ethiopian, who are currently in the process of being the recipients of Chinese “philanthropy”

The truth would be somewhere between propaganda(information control)), saving face, thinking they could contain it and not knowing it was going to be this bad

They backed his bid for director general in 2017. He then tried to make Mugabe a UN Goodwill ambassador. Also known for covering up outbreaks in Ethiopia while health minister there.

Pauline Hanson will be safe at least. I couldn't post it without having a pic of the buffoon, Brandis, our current High Commissioner to the UK. Seems he will forever have his snout in the public trough. What a disgusting, useless campaigner.

Nobody knows the power of people more than a regime in power because of a swell of people overthrowing the previous leadership.

The biggest weapon the rest of the world has against China is to simply show the Chinese how the rest of the world live. No surprise that all the information and media into the nation is filtered.

They are terrified of their own people and they should be. They could have two hundred million people march on a government.

If anything, this pandemic has shown up the lack of effectiveness of international organisations in handling global issues and will hopefully go some way in restoring independent state sovereignty.

Actually, if anything, this pandemic demonstrates the need for an effective international organisation not beholden to the whims of a superpower to provide independent analysis and advice of potential pandemics.

However, in practice it ain't happening. Remember the criticism copped when Australia placed an early travel ban on Chinese travelers despite no official advice from the WHO to do so? Situations like this only reinforce how impotent it and other organisations are when China or the US swing their international dick around to suppress info and block them from properly doing their jobs.

The problem with any international cooperation is that the only way for it to mean anything is to have the big boys involved, and the only way to get them to come to the table is to let them bully everybody, which unfortunately makes any international body more a club for the big boys to beat everyone into submission with than something which is actually helpful.

And money will always be an influence for these organisations because they want to survive, meaning they'll find more and more moral lines to smudge/move if it means they can be financially viable a bit longer.

That's how I am seeing it too, my employer is arguing with me that they have no work for me, and I keep saying, that's what the program is for, to prevent overloading Centrelink.

But i presume he doesnt have to pay you your normal wage over $1500 if he doesnt have work for you? Just the $1500 and he gets reimbursed? dont know why the boss wouldnt do it

It takes a lot to get people to march now days Governments have your phone number in the tracker too if you even think of it

Just look at the people who vote for Trump they are the ones who should be marching onto the White house but they are as happy as a Turkey on the 24th of December

Gotta say nothing really changed with stage 3 restrictions. Just that more couples are walking around otherwise dont notice anything different out side.

Passed a very elderly couple going for a walk yesterday - i reckon they would have been 85+ years of age. Gave them a wide berth, reckon they would fall over from the common flu let alone the corona flu

Probably just a calming of the situation or the hoarders have finally filled their boots, but our local supermarket was pretty much fully stocked the last few times ive been in.

Same - only toilet paper, rice and pasta still missing from mine. Tons of milk, sliced bread, meat and fruit and veg

If I'm putting myself in a hoarder's mindset, they already have their needs filled and don't want to be going to the shop to get exposed and find out about it in two weeks.

It's a deal struck with 657 private hospitals, expanding the number of beds available to 34,000.

The deal also opens up access to private hospital staffing and equipment, such as ventilators.

One third of Australia's intensive care capacity is in the private sector.

A potential game-changer yet again with the immediate addition of tens of thousands of beds, access to more staff and equipment, and 50% more ICU beds, however you'd think that one way or the other the private sector would have been roped into this battle.
