Whats Newman done wrong ???

Cotchin is definately the captain in waiting & will get his shot in 2013-2014.
Let him wait it out and give it to him when Newman is ready to hand it over.

2014
Captain: Cotchin
Vice Capt: Riewoldt,Delidio
Dep Vice : Conca , Batchelor , Astbury , Martin

Trent had best not take the No. 17 Guernsey when he takes the reigns. 9 suits hm too well.

I agree!!!! As you can see in my other thread i just bought a cotchin memorabilia piece and it has "#9" on the plaque.........will have to change it if he changes his number!

I don't think Newman's done much wrong Gun, I just think it's time for a change. In fact I was more critical prior to last year but I think he's done reasonably well as a leader since then. But I'd like to give Newy the opportunity to play a couple of seasons unburdened of the role. I'd also like to draw a line under the old Richmond, all the old baggage and start fresh next year.

Let 2012 be the definitive commencement of a new era.

Cotchin is still young, and we have a perfectly capable leader in Newman so why change? Cotchin has really only had 1 good year and we don't want him going backwards and the added pressure of the Official captaincy might hurt that.

We don't want him to end up like Brad green do we?

Big difference between Cotch and Brad Green. Cotch is flourishing in the role. Let it continue.

You use the term "perfectly capable" to describe Newman and I think the description is "perfect". I'm not satisfied with "perfectly capable".

Fully agree with everything. Newman has been a good leader but it's time for Cotchin to set the standard every week.

Im still not convinced we need to load a 22 yo kid with the resposability of being captain just yet.

Let Cotchin 1st establish his own game & become a gun player he is destined to become, Then we can make him captain with a decent team under his belt to lighten the pressure

I dont want the kid having to worry about captain issues of a struggling team.

24 years of age is about the correct time he should be looked at un my opinion.

Newman is doing a great job, and while Cotchin is going to be a super captainb for a long time, there is no need to rush it.

Give Newy at least a year, if not two then he can play his last year or so without having to worry about it.

By this time Cotch should be well established and it won't risk being a hinderance on his development.

Whatever happens, I hope Newy gets to play at least a final before retirement. I think it has always been seen as a formality that he will do the hard yards, and eventually just hand over the reigns to Cotch (or whoever else) in time for a decent assault at the top four. Not that you'd ever hear Newy complain.

The only downside is that he will have to relinquish his number, other great captains had their own number right through their carreers.

Time for RFC to retire 17 as a mark of respect to captain blood and let the cotch forge his own identity with the number 9.

He can go on and become our greatest captain leading us to five in a row.

Royce Hart was always 4, Roger Dean was always 3 etc etc

RFC stop this farce.
