Could Essendon miss the 8?

First of all, I was reffering to hos the only good team we have beaten is Fremantle. Carlton were undefeated and premiership favourites when we defeated them. West Coast likewise were undefeated. Richmond were flying and I think we were the only team they lost to in that five week period.

As for your post HAD. Apart from the fact you stated on our board that you've been trolling Essendon for 3-4 years, the fact is we should be getting quite a few players back in the next few weeks, meaning our best players will have a few games under their belt for finals.

We won't be the easy beats you're predicting.

Not sure you can say that with 2 hidings in the last 3 weeks and looking like 4 hidings in 5 weeks. Sure players can come back - but players can also get injured. You think you won't be easy beats if you have to go to WA to play the WCE?

I don't think we would be, WCE aren't exactly flying these days.

In fact, they're only 2% ahead of us yet aren't copping any criticism or being brought in to the discussion. They still have games against Hawthorn, Collingwood, Geelong and Fremantle to come.

You live in hope - I would think most teams in the 8 would really hope to draw you in the 1st week. The next 2 weeks will be interesting. You may need to protect the good % you have built up.

Hawthorn should win by 10 goals on Friday night but I wouldn't be surprised if Essendon did what they did to Geelong last year. They seem to thrive when there is little expectation around them thus this thread might be redundant come Friday night.

Either way, their best midfielder turns 28 before the start of next year and they won't be contending for flags until they improve that area by quite a margin. I can't see that happening through internal development.
But Luke Ball is going to come back? Jolly will truck on? Tazza will add to your quest for a flag?

Take the fkg glasses off you git.

And Essendon would love to draw North.

I'm surprisingly optimistic about this week. Unlikely we'll win but none the less, it has the same vibe as our Round 4 game v Carlton.

As for West Coast, if they were playing like they were earlier in the year, I wouldn't be overly confident of winning a final there. But in there current state, plus the fact that we've won 5 of our last 6 interstate, I would have some optimism.

All we can do is wait and see how long it takes to get back into swing once Hurley and Ryder come back in. Both should be back for Adelaide next week.

I'm resigned to think that if Essendon make finals, we'll be playing North or Geelong at the MCG.

Few of the boys on the punting forum got on Essendon to miss the 8 at 7-1 just prior to their loss to Geelong, interesting times ahead but with some decent players to return, you would have to think they can hang on.

Would be a long off season for the loser!

You would think North would probably go above them after having the easiest fixture in the history of the sport (ours is probably 2nd :)) but they should still finish 6-8th.

Really in the papers and on non-bigfooty sites Adelaide #1, North #2? Either way we have 1 or 2 easy wins over the other clubs but if we make the 8 by 4 or more points we deserve it!!

Essendon will do enough to make the 8 and as players come back could also find a little form too!!

They've given up their percentage advantage. They're probably only a 60/40 chance of making it now.

Won't make it. In fact, won't win another game. Seriously, in their current firm and with their long injury list, who will they beat out of adel in adel, north, Carl, rich, Coll? They may sneak Carl but I doubt it . They'll be 1 game and a few % only inside the 8 at end of this round. Gone. Won't hold on

I'm not saying they are the yard stick. I'm just comparing essendons effort levels in games. I know that we will bring our A game to the Hawks game. If it was someone like Fremantle, North, or even Geelong (middle of the ladder teams) we just dont turn up. My point was that we can tell if our best is good enough.

Ouch! I hope for your sake that wasn't it.

Clearly we didn't. Thought the boys would bring the A game to this game. No chance in seeing that this season if we don't turn up to play against our hated rivals. Also, cant really get a good A game going when you are forced to play your B team.

If you choose to flog your players to death during the preseason you have to live with the results.

We didn't manage our players intelligently during Harvey's tenure and it arguably cost him his job.

Exactly all of Essendonds injuries are soft tissue injuries, widely considered to be a result of their over zealous pre seaosn training

They brought this on themselves
And they dont even have that many out....

Biggest falls from top two following Round 10:

Collingwood 1954, 1st after R14, 2nd after R15, finished 7th
Fitzroy 1948, 1st after R11, finished 7th

West Coast 2003, 2nd after R15, finished 7th
Port Adelaide 2005, 2nd after R13, finished 7th
Melbourne 1971, 2nd after R12, finished 7th
Melbourne 1965, 2nd after R11, finished 7th
Melbourne 1994, 2nd after R10, finished 7th
Essendon 2012, 2nd after R10, finished ???
