We will be damned if we do and damned if we don't.
Whatever the outcome the result will be slagged off by the vics and anti ben crew.

The problem is

some eagles board members and a certain amount of thier members and fans are scared shitless.

No toughness and guts here.
Just shit scared.

Maybe they need abit of army training

to help them to be less scared of thier shadows

If the AFL says we need to take him back for his own good, they have given us the green light. Any future indiscretions should be out of our hands and in theirs.

Personally, I don't think he's clean and I couldn't give two shits if Cousins smokes pip through his arseh*le, he's a footy player, not my surgeon... It's none of my business.

Of note I know of other AFL players that hit it all the time (Not just Eagles players BTW) and it's no big deal, because once again, it's none of my business.

oh yeah i forgot to make a foot note that i was joking when i said we rejected his plea.

it'll happen anyway though.

I laughed pretty hard at that :thumbsu:

If we don't have the sanctions anymore and the AFL give us a greenlight, we should have a crack at him.

It won't cost us anything apart from a spot on the rookie list that some ******* who would never pull on the jumper would take, if he was any good he'd already be on it or on the senior list, and the reward far out weighs the risk.

If he stuffs up again, then he's out. People say we've given him chance after chance but this is the only time Ben has actually taken it upon himself to do something about it, or at least make it look like he has, so he deserves to be given his go.

If the whole things blows up in our faces we'll move on, but if he comes back and brings the X factor we lacked last year, I bet all of the nay sayers will stand and applaud with the rest of us.

This situation is like trying to beg your girlfriend + her parents back to take you back after getting caught cheating on her for the 10th time....

I would depend on how big your old fella is and how you perform in the bedroom...

We all know Cuz can perform on the big stage.

BC was the main reason we won in 2006. He has been the heart and soul of the club for his career. He trained harder, he played better. He was the face of the club until 2006 and even that year was still the on field leader.
Short memories some of you guys.
My sentiments exactly. Those who are quick to turn their back on our greatest ever player either have short memories, or take champions for granted.

The only reason why i dragged myself to Eagles games at Subi during the Ken Judge years was because Cousins would bust his gut trying to get us over the line. I get the feeling a lot of the people who dont want him back are part time supporters or just turned the TV off during those years.

At least hold the meeting and see if anything can be arranged. And fck the sponsors - any major sponsor who jumps off our club will easily and quickly be replaced. One of the most successful and decorated clubs in the AFL - there would be a number of big name brands putting their hand up to sponsor us if SGIO or Hungry Jacks cracked the shits if we took Ben back. We arent one of the struggling Victorian clubs who have less than 15k members.

Instead of always contemplating why shouldnt we take him back, we should be looking at all the reasons for taking him back. A new crop of kids seeing how hard you have to train to be a champion - invaluable.

This thread is still going?

Why bother even opening it, tool?

You're either so sick of it you don't want to hear/read about it anymore - don't open the thread. Or you're interested in what other people have to say on the subject - open it and have valuable input.

You're wasting ours and your own time bringing this crap to the table.

I agree. Doogs was always better than that hack, Dean Cox. If he was any good people would have seen it from the start and he'd have been drafted in the top 3 like NicNat.

ill quote this for effect.

Why some idiots bother to declare their none interest in a thread by actually posting in it is beyond me. We dont care if you hate the topic. We want to discuss it and if you dont stfu.

I feel like slapping myself for saying this, but I am very slowly coming around to the view that the club should do something for Cousins.

Not necessarily allow him to play, but given he is now basically entirely unwanted by the rest of the league, it might be easier for West Coast to take a constructive role in his rehab, because the club could totally dictate the terms he was there on.

If, hypothetically, the AFL said to the West Coast board, 'please take him on as a long shot, project rookie, not guaranteed to ever play again, and with zero liability if he stuffs up', I struggle to see how that would be a bad thing, and I'd like to think the club could have some stake in trying to help him sort his life out.

I suppose the point I'm making is that taking on Cousins as an act of AFL requested charity is (slightly) more palatable than a scenario where he's drafted because of perceived value, because the club would not stand to lose anything if he didn't cut the mustard.

How is Ben being restrained from playing in the AFL? The AFL have cleared him to play, albeit subject to a stringent drug-testing regime. The only thing standing in the way of him playing for an AFL side is... an AFL side choosing to draft him.

If the 16 clubs decide not to draft him, how can it be the AFL's fault? (Or more correctly, how does this give rise to an actionable restraint of trade?)

Don't know how long you've been practicing law mate, but I was always taught never to give guarantees...

To follow stuart's superb line of reasoning, any law firms which didn't offer me articles were *actually* engaging in unlawful restraint of trade. Can I have your address for service please?

Yeah, these are the same people who think these new draft picks are going to become overnight champions. Who knows, I hope they do. I also hope we win another premiership in my lifetime. Neither is guaranteed. Cuz's status as an absolute once in a lifetime champion, is however not up for debate.

The AFLPA has written to the league accusing it of actions that "humiliate the fallen when they are at their neediest" in relation to the conditions placed on Cousins' potential return.

AFLPA not happy, and rightfully so.

The treatment of Cuz by the AFL has been nothing short of a disgrace.

They are partly to blame if he does not play AFL again. Yes it is still his fault for getting into the mess he did, but they have done him absolutely no favours in helping him come back.
