Gimp has the cooking issue / game under his control - he knows I'm a serious threat in the chef / haute cuisine stakes so he ignores the little grenades I roll around BF on that topic :)

PS - might give up name TKil - change to "filthy cod eater"

Is the implication that you're a filthy eater of cod or that you're an eater of filthy cod?

As the creator of that moniker, I can advise that the adjective can apply to the eater and/or the cod, your choice. But I really should have added filthy smoked cod eater, because salt cod isn't terrible when done nicely - but then again it is still filthy - Rick Stein reckons that some people re-hydrate their salt cod by placing it in the toilet cistern so as to regularly change the water. Insert spew emoji.

actually just bought some orange roughy - is that acceptable or am I still just a mangiatore di merluzzo vergognoso?
Orange roughy is bad, but tastes good. Unsustainable - you shouldn't buy it. You might be eating a poor little fishy that was very old. But at least you will be able to tell the temperature without a thermometer with the amount of mercury you might be about to ingest.

To rid you of the taste of cod, you can currently get bugs home delivered from Red Coral seafood. $55/kg which gives you about 4-5 bugs. Do it.

Not sure they deliver too far out of Melbourne but thanks for the tease.

I tend to not eat too much fish I don't catch myself. Never caught an orange roughy.

The best eating saltwater fish are IMHO (in no particular order) coral trout, cobia, salt run Barra (not to be confused with river-run or farmed), flathead, whiting, red emperor, wahoo, territory snapper (fingermark, goldies), mahi mahi, job fish, good tuna, and kingy's. There's other stuff you can eat but that's the pick of it.

You would need a lot of line to catch one! Coral trout my no. 1.

I've no idea what that phrase means but I'd like to think that my recently gained knowledge on viral pathology positions me in line with most PHDs in the field.

I always live by the adage that life is just too short for inferior wine. Added substandard coffee to that some time ago. Now I'm adding dodgy fish to.

Yeah, I've heard they like it deep.

Hard to argue that coral trout isn't the pick of the litter.

On point Jack, bream (yellowfin) fries well, I remember catching those as a kid in Merimbula.

If you're ever in Greece these little buggers are so sweet tasting they're almost crystacean like in flavor. Called "barbouni", the closest thing we have is red mullet which is bland AF.

Hell yeah Jack. We're pretty lucky to be in AU and how much quality we can get in a red for around $25.

Which makes 'to merrily disport' a tautology.

Pedant. :p

I thought ‘merrily’ added a bit of 19th century flavour. This board lacks 19th century awareness, although salted cod is heading in the right direction.
