1) I've found that lots of Indians who have come to Australia support Australia. I'm assuming that they came to Australia because they like it and now they want to support it. People with Indian backgrounds who are born here tend to support India. That's what I see within a few of my mates.thanx a ton but confused,
1)it is a mix but mostly india fo both born in australia and abroad?
2)why is it that sweeney research has 6 cricketers in the top 11?
3)you have said both afl and cricket, so one can say that they are tied?
2) Because they are the most well known..? AFL players will only pull votes from Vic, SA and WA, while NFL players will only pull votes from NSW and QLD. Cricket is loved by everyone, everywhere, hence the popularity of it's players. There's hundreds, possibly over a thousand NRL and AFL players. With cricket, there's only 11 and they all tend to become cult figures, eg. Gilchrist, Warne, McGrath, Hussey, Lee...
There popularity increase may come with the dominance of the Aussie team.
3) I would say that AFL gets more media coverage. There's almost 200 games played in the whole year, and it's on every single week. There's always injury talks, trade talks, controversies...even more so than cricket. We have a lot of AFL talk shows, one which gets a lot of coverage, more so than others. Type in Sam Newman on youtube. You guys in Delhi have probably even heard of him.
