Breaking news, but we have our replacements for Beveridge and Hudson it seems.:thumbsu:

McRae, a three-time Brisbane premiership player who spent the 2010 season working on the Lions' coaching staff and prior to that was a development coach at Richmond, is the Magpies’ new development manager.

Lappin, who has spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Carlton, will be an assistant coach at Collingwood working under senior coach Mick Malthouse and alongside Nathan Buckley, Mark Neeld and Scott Watters. The club is yet to confirm the specific roles each coach will fulfil for the 2011 season.

Welcome Craig and Matthew.:thumbsu:

So McRae replaces Beveridge I take it?

Be good to get some feedback from Lions/Blues fans about what they thought of them when they were at their clubs.

Yeah, McRae was only at Bris for 1yr but at Richmond/Coburg in a development role for a few years before that. Apparently Brad Scott rated him fairly highly.

I wonder who they will get as VFL coach for next season.

No decision yet;

The club is yet to announce a replacement for Gavin Brown, who, after 26 years as a player and coach at Collingwood, resigned to take up an assistant coaching position with Carlton. Brown has been the Magpies’ VFL coach for the past three seasons.

I don't think Collingwood would be chasing a "senior VFL coach", we would probably want to give the opportunity to someone young who can develop in the role.

Tigers fans appointed McRae as their "Blame this guy for everything wrong with the club" scapegoat in 2009.

Basically, they're full of it.

He was really good in his development role this year. Coaching the reserves he was an extremely effective communicator and his focus appeared to be on getting the young players ready to play the senior gameplan.

For the first time in a while, all our young players in 2010 didn't look completely out of their depth when they cracked senior selection.

Very sad to lose him but he apparently stuggled being away from his daughter who is still in Melbourne. Good luck Fly.

Very promising, thanks for the insight TBD.

Thanks for the update TBD, apparently North Coach Brad Scott really rates Mcrae highly (as Jonesy mentioned above), and Collingwood actually wanted him a few years ago, but he wouldn't accept a role as Luke Beveridge's understudy.

Now he has the top job at Collingwood (as far as development goes).

He won't know what has hit him, we have so many resources at hand for him he will be like a kid in a candy store.:D

All the best to Skinny Lappin. I think he did a good job with helping to restructure our Forward line after Fevola left, and helping to bring our small forwards into the game more. No doubt he will do a good job at the Pies. Wish him all the best of luck (albeit for the scum! :p)

I work at the North Melbourne Football club and was on the oval today when all these random players (J.Riewoldt, D.Fletcher, M.Boyd, D.Cross, B.Gibbs, P.Dangerfield and then GOLDY :D) rocked up. Then the man himself Mick rocked up with Matthew Lappin and I couldn't figure out why they would come together until now! Standing side by side with Mick as he spoke to all these players was unbelievable, he just has this presence. (The smile and handshake with Goldy was so funny, it was kind of like a 'hey, remember what we did a couple of weeks ago' greeting).

Wrapped with both acquisitions, Brisbane's youngsters in Banfield, Reddon and Rockliff all came along very nicely under McRae. Also Malthouse had Lappin as an assistant for the international rules in 2008 along with Buckley. So he must see something in him that some experts on this board don't.

Both seem terrible

McRae - Richmond and Brisbane
Lappin - stain

Not happy about these appointments. Bucks better whip these fools into shape. 1 year appointment, Bucks will clear them off.

How can you dislike someone you dont know, its not possible.

Happy to support anyone who contributes to our club.

Average player, and I've not seen anything to suggest he was anything other than an average assistant at a painfully average club. I'll support him completely because he's a Pie now, I just wouldn't have chosen him myself.

Surely you have bad first impressions of people for no good reason, I think it's natural - I just get a weird vibe from the bloke. It is possible to dislike someone you don't know btw - George Bush? Know him? Dislike him? hmm

Anyway, welcome Lappin!

Agree on all points although I have the impression that my dislike stems from his filthy Carltoness and this may scrub off in time. Hopefully.

You even come across as a know nothing tosser on your own board, You are such a fool to judge people the way you do. If Mick and Co think they are the guys for the job i would trust in them, well before even reading you utter dribble.

It's a Collingwood opinion, on a ... Collingwood board, who would have thought? He was painfully average.

We've got Bucks and Neeld, the others are there to pick up witches hats

hahahaha. Watter goes pretty good too though.

I was quite impressed with the Brisbane younger players whent hey played having watched them plenty up here. Whatever their talent they all appeared well prepared for senior footy. I'm quite ahppy with the McRae appointment.

As for Lappin, I'm not sure. But the opposition coach seems to be the lowest level of assistant coach and seems to go the bottom of the rung guy. Hudson last 2 years, Caracella before that. Lappin did get around a forward line quite well as a player, so he should be able to add something as the opposition coach.

Happy with both. Saw McRea at Cooporoo, seemed ok then. Malthouse rates Lappin who worked with him and buckley with the aussie team.
