Ok so in your opinion reflect on which game you consider to be Crawf's best of all time..

For mine it would have to be a chilly Saturday night out at Waverly Park in round 21 of 1999. The hawks were a mathematical chance of making the top 8, we finished 9th from memory, and we were up against Geelong, who (i stand to be corrected) made the finals, Crawford ran an absolute muk amassing 30 odd possessions kicking 3 goals in a simple breath taking performance and somewhat single handedly keeping us within touch of geelong throughout most of the night, being the true champion he was with less than a minute left on the clock and michael mansfield streaming inside 50, crawf chases and with every ounce of energy left in his body lunges and makes an inspirational tackle to knock mansfield off balance allowing the hawks to clear the ball out to the boundary line... will never forget that effort from crawf truly inspirational! went on to deservedly win the brownlow medal that year.

Will miss ya mate

Right up until the end, Crawf seemed to save his best for the Cats. I remember in 2002, Crawf tore them up in both of our games against them. The Rd 7 game he gathered 30 possessions, 4 clearances, and 4 goals, and IIRC, the return game yielded similar stats.

I still have the Monday HUN double-page spread from that game which I just dug up. Only 6 years on, apart from Crawf there were only 2 other players from that Rd 7, 2002 game that remain on the list. Anyone take a guess who?

^^^^^^^^^^^

Hodge?
Mitchell?

Can't be Croad he was at Freo.

Maybe C.Brown?

I agree thought that game against the cats he was awesome. I remember Bomber Thompson saying it was the best individual performance he ever seen....or words to that effect

Living in Adelaide, I obviously haven't seen all of Crawf's games, but that one was the one that sits in my mind as the best Crawford game I've seen. I was lucky enough to be there that night, and as I said in another thread, if you wan't to see Crawf at his best, get a copy of this game.

Name anyone you want ... Voss, Buckley, Hird ... and NOBODY could have played a better game than Crawf did that night.

MY favourite Crawf game was the elimination final against Sydney in 2001 at the Telstra Dome.

The Hawks had been beaten in Round 22 by St Kilda after the siren and after what looked to be a super start to the season (we won first 8 games), we were lucky to be able to hang in there and qualify for the 8.

The media before the game gave us no chance and Syndey were very smug thinking we would be easy beats...During the first quarter it certainly looked that way too, but the Hawks just seemed to hang in there.

Mid way through the 2nd quarter, Crawf kicked one the most inspiring goals I've ever seen, shrugged a number of tackles and booted it from just outside 50....wasn't a huge crowd there, but the roar seemed like the GF this year.

That goal and Crawfs efforts for the rest of the game along with Chick and Barker lit the Hawks up and we went on to smash the Swans....

Brilliance by the champ.

HAWTHORN 1.0 5.4 11.9 19.15 (129)
SYDNEY 4.1 6.3 7.5 11. 8 ( 74)

Can't remember the game exactly, but it was early 2000s and Mattner (when he was a young crow) tried to tag Crawf and got one of the biggest individual embarassments I've ever seen. Crawf got about 35 hard earned possesions and just dominated the whole ground. I'm only 24 so memory wise I'm limited but I remember him being a god that day
