i'm guessing the olympics would be 20/20 ? that way the 20/20 global comp remains at every 2 years.

my only concern is that the olympics only go for 2 weeks - how many pool games would there be ? would it be a wham bam thankyou mam tournament like the current champions trophy ?

You do the qualifying over a 3 year period and only 8 teams make the Olympics. Play each other once, then semi and final or have two groups of 4 with semis and final

In terms of white ball formats the pecking order will be if and when the Olympics comes in....

50 over ODI World Cup > T20 World Cup (every 2 years)> Olympics > Champions Trophy 50 over

everything else and bilaterial series is just meaningless as sad as it sounds. Tri-series ODIs also wouldnt bring that much excitement for me.

The 50 over ODI World Cup was the pinnacle growing up. Although its lost some lure given the volume of cricket played these days. It seems like you can organise a tournament 3-4 months in advance. eg Im not sure how long the Afghanistan v Bangladesh current ODI series was planned in advance.

In regards to the stats discussion from the previous page, cricinfo and not being able to collect womens domestic cricket stats like WT20, WOD, and WFC. And only collating International stats
Not all of ci’s first class scorecards have been converted to the format they use for international scorecards etc. it’s hard to find any stats on players outside internationals, t20 comps etc.

The tri series works of you have 2 decent nations instead of one and a minnow like they used to do.

Huge lost opportunity having India and Pakistan in the country and no tri series! You’d get 95,000 to the MCG!

They seem to have league specific stats for women now, e.g. WBBL and the hundred. I do agree though it is a tad annoying.

The One Day world cup is still the biggest event on the Cricket calendar. But these other little waste of time series need to have meaning for the fans to engage.

They should be about qualifying for the world cup and then they have some meaning.
Australia are going to 'qualify' for a WC regardless. The best way to bring back their relevance is to put it back on FTA TV.

We live in different times. Back in the 90s I remember a really good tri-series match between NZ and SA at the GABBA. I also remember the quadrangle 4 team series involving: Aus, Aus A, England and Zimbabwe. Back in those days and without as much as social media, this was the main form of cricket being focused on. These days you have more eyes on 2nd and 3rd tier nations eg Afghanistan v Bangladesh, Oman v Netherlands, some ICC Cricket World Cup qualifier (3rd division) going on today.........

It might work if its a tri-series in T20 between three nations. Australia alone struggles to get an ODI crowd for a home game , let alone an away country.

More nations are scheduling slightly more T20s than ODIs in a tour. eg WI v ENG is 5 T20s and 3 ODIs. I feel thats the better balance of games. Cricket Australia back in the day had that ratio more heavily weighted towards ODIs.

And I know this might sound a sad tad, a BBL franchise team v a country, im pretty sure would attract more than Australia v a country these days.

Remember when ODI's were popular and crowds were double what they are now? Well that was a time when they were on FTA TV.
It was also when they would go off FTA in the home city after 2 hours

Things that annoy me: Board of Control of Cricket for Internationals. Now boycotting the Champions Trophy because it's held in Pakistan and the Indian PM is a xenophobe extremist.

this really shits me too

we refuse to play afghanistan in a test because they wont let their women play, but india can dictate who they will play and where

money has ruined cricket

i remember the domestic one dayers on TV as well.

McDonalds cup
FAI Insurance cup
Mercantile Mutual cup
ING cup
Ford Ranger cup
Ryobi cup
Matadors BBQ cup
JLT cup
Marsh cup

Now the competition doesn't even have a sponsor's name behind it.

The competition has now dwindled down from a genuine home and away 10 game season to 7 games.

I'm too young (or wasn't following cricket at the time) to remember McDonalds Cup and FAI Cup, so would you say the Mercantile/ING period was the competition's peak in terms of interest?
