Cam Green is becoming a superstar. Gets wickets, makes run, good in the field. No wonder her is on big $ in the IPL.

One cricketer in history has more runs and more wickets at the same stage of their test career as Cameron Green:

Fun summer facts:
  • the last 5 opposition test innings (2 with Windies, 3 with SA) have averaged 146 runs.
  • the last 2 opposition second innings have averaged 88 (77 against Windies, 99 against SA)

Going to be tough replacing him.

Gather we pick another batsman & Head, Labuschagne & Smith make up the 5th bowler in Sydney.

Also, rules out us playing a 2nd spinner.

Should have had the Saffies 2-for at stumps, if Warner didn't have butter fingers, dropping a regulation slips catch - despite getting both hands on the ball.

As for team selection. We have 2 players who we know will miss Sydney - Starc & Green. Hazlewood is likely to be available.

So...
  • Do they go with 3x quicks (Cummins, Hazlewood & Boland), 2x spinners, and only 5 specialist batsmen?
  • Or, do they go with 2x quicks (Cummins, 1 of Hazlewood/Boland), 2x spinners, and 6 specialist batsmen?
  • Or, do they go with 2x quicks (Cummins, 1 of Hazlewood/Boland), 2x spinners, 5x specialist batsmen, and try Aaron Hardie as the all-rounder?
Hardie was apparently name checked by both Ponting & O'Keefe, as a possible Green replacement. Apparently he has better 1st class averages (both batting & bowling) than Green. I don't know how realistic his chances are, but he could be a decent player if he lives up to those stats.

Would be a big move to go from 4 quicks down to two.

They're so conscious of fast bowler workloads that I doubt they'll go this way.

Reckon it will be an ultra conservative selection
Hazelwood in for Starc
Marcus Harris in for Green and batting at 6

Hazelwood will come in for Starc.

Given we are likely to be 2-0 up, wouldn't be against picking someone like Hardie with a view to the future. He wouldn't be any worse with the bat than Harris who we already know isn't up to international standsrd... & can bowl & decent fielder

The Green replacement is the hard one. Usman will be lucky, but I like him.

Hazlewood comes in.. but does that mean Boland goes out?

Agree about Harris not being up to standard.

They seem to want to play 2 spinners in Sydney. That has to have implications for the number of fast bowlers selected, and losing Green complicates that even further.

What I’d do:-

Warner
Khawja
Labuschange
Smith
Head
Carey
Hardie (one for the future 🤞)
Cummins
Lyon
Boland
Morris
Like it, but expect they will pick Hazelwood over Morris.

I agree I think the same, is he fully recovered though?

he’s really been starting to show some durability issues the last couple of summers as good as he’s been
Sounds like he could have played Boxing Day but they were cautious.
