Australia have been naming random experimental XI's for away ODI/T20 series for many years (decades?) now. It's only more noticeable now that they are doing this at home too (and right before a test series,) which brings it into the notice of the "cricket fan" who doesn't pay attention except during the Australian Summer and one Ashes tour every four years.

The USA recently sacked Stuart Law due to random internal politics, hard to beat that for dumbest management decision in cricket. But Pakistan go close.
