Bowling has been nothing short of ordinary/unthreatening today, team really looked like they dropped their heads once Hazelwood went off.
Nathan Lyon averaging nearly 60 over this & the last series against India at home.

Great catch by Smith, but cost an extra 51 runs after dropping an easy one.
TBH its not the runs now, its the added time it took.

Follow on would have been the only way of winning... but with this rain, it's all looking academic.

Even discounting rain, the follow-on is basically mandatory at this point. Even if the bowlers are cooked and they have to open with part-timers/Lyon.
Yeah they are a bit forced into it now, but I dont think theres going to be a result anyhow.
Nathan Lyon has bowled absolute pump today on what is a pretty favourable pitch for him.

Could end up being the difference. Lyon should be a wicket threat with the old ball. Meaning that at least one of the fast bowlers would have probably been rested before opening after the follow-on.
He’d want to find some rhythm fast if he wants to turn it around in the 2nd innings, reminded me of the old Lyon when he was still wet behind the ears & he’d bowl too much around the wicket on too straight a line and drag it down too short.
I like days when the Sydney Thunder are playing in the BBL. It means that David Warner isn't doing commentary in the Test Match.

I’m more of a winter fan and don’t have to see or listen not him at all
India going to avoid the follow-on because Cummins has had to bowl himself into the absolute dirt because even to numbers 10 & 11 Lyon looks totally unthreatening
We were never going to enforce the follow on once Hazelwood went down
I think they still would’ve enforced if it was as late in the day as it was when Jadeja got out

Probably for the best given where we are we didn't get the follow on as we would have bowled our bowlers too much and there would be no way we would have rotated any out...think Hazelwood would have put his hand up to bowl at the MCG rather than let a fit bowler take his place

But there's also a lot of "XYZ's medium pace/spin could be handy if needed" players in the squad that sat around doing nothing all innings.
Lyon's obviously the big problem in this situation.
