Marsh doing his absolute best to reclaim his WOAT title.

Surely needs to be dropped for 5th test.

Webster should have played from the 2nd test.

Even McSweeney would be a more useful option at #6 & can bowl a bit too.

Bloke before him leaving one on off peg didn't help either, but you're right.
Can't score century every game, so reckon we can forgive Head failing to pick up the line.

I thought it was the height he misjudged, thinking it would go over the stumps. Even so, he's done more than enough so far in this series that we can forgive him a mistake in this innings.

Bottom line is he misjudged the ball hitting top of off stump... but given before this match he had outscored the combined efforts of all the other Australian batsmen, we can forgive him.

Marsh's latest failure has dropped his average (while batting at #6) from 32.28 to 31.78. In doing so, he has risen from 12th to 10th on the WOAT rankings (moving ahead of Flintoff & Dickwella).

He's still got a long way to go to drop his average back below Blundell's 22.87. Marsh seems eager to regain his crown, and the selectors are clearly happy to keep picking him while he moves closer to the title.

I think the all rounder metrics are up the creek though.
Meh... Cummins the better bowler, Stokes the better batsman. It's hard to get a proper balance between the two skills.

Having said that, Stokes has struggled a lot with the bat (and injuries) in the last 12 months, resulting in him falling in the rankings.

It's a sign of how highly rated Cummins is when he is above Stokes in the All Rounder table
Careers v World Championship

Cummins 65 Tests; 16 Tests
283 wickets @ 22.61; 62 @ 25.7
1354 runs @ 16.71; 450 @ 21.42
0.74 runs/wickets ave ratio; 0.83

Stokes 110 Tests: 18 Tests
210 wickets @ 32.36; 20 @ 35.5
6719 runs @ 35.55; 1005 @ 33.56
1.1 runs/wickets ave ratio; 0.95

Stokes ahead statistically both recently & over careers.

Looking at the figures from the current WTC cycle - Cummins averages 10 runs better with the ball, Stokes 12 runs better with the bat.

My gut feel is that Cummins' bowling more than compensates for Stokes' better batting.

Hard to get a read on the game.

India haven't bowled particularly well for the most part, and aside from the catch this morning haven't fielded well either.

Are they gassed from a day in the field, or is this pitch as flat as the concrete in the stands ??

At 7/450 we shouldn't be losing.

Cummins a better all rounder than marsh
Not much in it actually as all rounders...

Marsh - 45 Tests
2079 runs @ 29.28
51 wickets @ 39.82
Ratio 0 735

Cummins ratio is 0.739.

But the big difference is Cummins holds his own as a class bowler averaging 22.61, with handy batting average of 16.71.

Neither Marsh's batting nor bowling are good enough for Test level.

Given that 5 of the 7 Australian wickets were given away, rather than taken by the Indians, it's hard to get a read. We'll know more after the Indian batsmen have had a go. For now though, it's looking very much like a batsman's paradise.

Looking at the Australian batting card - 6 of the 9 batsmen have scored 30+ (with Starc on 15* having only recently started his innings). Only Head and the walking wicket have missed out. When even the bowlers are finding it this easy, it's probably safe to say that the pitch holds few gremlins.

Forget allrounder. Put Starc is that category as well.
Batsman!
Mitch Starc - 92 Tests
372 wickets @ 27.55
2169 runs @ 20.46
Runs/wickets ratio of 0.743

So just ahead of Cummins & Marsh in allrounder stakes.

I was having more of a go at Marsh being useless as a batsman.
Mcsweeny comes into middle order in place of Marsh.
