It would actually be great news for Australia if Starc ended up missing the SCG Test given these are his numbers there;
17 innings, 24 wickets @ 44.16 with a strike-rate of 78.2

This series unfortunately for Australia starting to turn out eerily similar to the last one in Australia in 2020/21, highly likely with 2 days to play this Test on this pitch ends up being a draw so Australia would again head into the final Test of the series needing to win with a tired and toothless bowling unit and Indian youngsters starting to show the way for the tourists.

The more I watch this series, the more it looks like two pretty poor teams playing each other.
It was interesting to watch Lyon vs. Jadega: Lyon completely had his measure and Jadega couldn't do anything about it, but Jadega is normally much better. On the other hand, Lyon didn't seem to know what to do against anyone else.
I think the time is ripe for a big cleanout of the senior personnel in both teams.

This is my take
The biggest difference is they have a decent portion of youth, we don't.
Very much looking like a team with a heap of players hoping to finish up after the ashes.

About half of the players on both sides have performed poorly & carried by the other half.
At least the Indian selectors have been brave making changes... whereas ours have made only 1 forced change all series, despite underperforming players.
We need to start phasing out some of the older players.
No doubt Australia even after today’s utterly toothless display are still ahead in this specific game on the scoreboard but fitting into my comparison to 2020/21 it’s likely given how this match is setup now this ends up like the 2021 SCG Test where they can’t bowl India out on the final day on a pretty flat deck.
Likely the only way there’s a result is if one batting unit has a total crazy collapse and gets bundled out for 150-170 in their 2nd dig and with India batting down to 8 they’ve setup their team to avoid something like that.

TBH Smith is the only one of the "older" crew i have confidence in. He's that good he will find a way for another 12-18 months.
Marsh has to go, Ussie has to go, Marnus needs a spell at Shield level but is young enough to come back.
Lyon bowled well enough today but he's near the end, Cummins is fine, Starc and Hazelwood concern me

As a side note Fraser-McGurk was on Triple M and was asked how he felt his chances of making the team were and he said (paraphrase) '' go back make some runs for the next 2 years and theres a few old guys in that middle order I can aim to take a spot off ''

Starc should always get a rest midway through a series. It does my head in that we just don't rotate the bowlers a bit through a five test series

Would be a huge turn around, i think we'd all love to see it though
Starc will still try to force them to play him by saying he’s fine, but in the unlikely event he does go out for mine they still need a left-armer so from left field they should bring Joel Paris in, injuries have ruined his career but his record is so good it shouldn’t be ignored if he’s fit... having someone that is an actual swing bowler would be a nice change up.
Knowing the selectors they’ll probably select the total dud that is Sean Abbott though.

Yep.
It reeks of the "I thrive on high workload and continuity" bollocks that Crows seniors use to justify soldiering on while sore. Keeping youngsters from getting their mitts on their spot, to the team's detriment.

I don't think India have made brave calls. Rohit shouldn't be playing, Kohli probably not either with his recent record, and Siraj has been terrible and should be dropped. Both sides are sticking to underperforming incumbents

They retired Ashwin.
They dropped Gill to give them more bowling options... though yes, they should have dropped Rohit instead.
They have rotated their bowlers over a 5 test series with unforced changes.
India have used 16 players, where we have used 13, with only 1 unforced change.
