Haven't let the score blow-out after some wickets, but Afghanistan are going to post a score which could be challenging on this pitch.

We have conceded runs & catches in the field, which can become costly on a lower scoring pitch.

Getting in & not losing regular wickets to be the key when we bat. Marsh is overdue for rums.

Thought it was cocky bowling 1st.
Sloppy fielding.
Poor batting except Maxwell.

Now need to beat undefeated India to get through to Semis.
Bowling first was such a hilariously horrible decision just given the history at that ground, plus after what happened last year surely they knew giving the Afghanistan bowlers second use of that pitch to defend anything over 120 was playing right into their hands. Funny how that game last year mirrored this one minus Maxwell finishing it off.

Such dumb batting again to consistently swing across the line on a pitch that was two paced and holding slightly.

The Marsh captaincy arc could be one of the worst reputational dives in history
Bit of a habit now for one of ‘those’ days to happen under Marsh’s leadership where the team looks like it is just going through the motions. Lost it in the fist 15 overs when they just tried to bowl ‘pretty’ lengths, didn’t attack the stumps because they were too afraid of getting on the Afghani openers pads and Zampa bowled way too full (just like last year’s match).

Also starting to think it can’t be a coincidence how poor the fielding standards have been under his captaincy, last year’s tour prior to the WC in South Africa it was poor, against the Windies in Australia it was also lacklustre. Teams often take on the attitude & attributes that reflect their captain, feel like this ‘chilled out’ Marsh style can be good in some pressure moments but can also leave a lot to be desired at other times especially when bringing energy and high standards in the field.

They had such a good thing going with Cummins you do wonder if the want to not ‘overburden’ him was worth the risk at this specific juncture with a big International tournament on the line.

England ride their charity point vs Scotland all the way to the semi-finals.

I would have kept Cummins. But there's also the chance that Cummins would miss matches through rotation/tactical mix/etc in T20s. So I can see the logic.

But ironically Marsh has run into the same problem. But by coming into the tournament injured and some bizarre 12 dimensional chess, he has actually made himself undroppable.
  • He can't bowl
  • therefore Australia select an extra allrounder to cover the gap
  • he loses form with the bat
  • there's no specialist batter to replace him due to said extra allrounder.

Perhaps swap Marsh & Stoinis in the batting order?

Could be a good quick fix. Seems like a waste of Stoinis' late innings hitting to have him struggling against a newish ball though.
Both Stonis & Wade have played higher up the order before.

Perhaps we use Wade if we lose an early wicket.

Not looking good for Australia's progression chances, Afghanistan to a slow but wicketless start with the bat.

edit: I will add that Afghanistan are scoring so slowly, it's really stretching the limits of how positive wickets in hand can be

Now it's drifting towards "Bangladesh chase this down so quickly they qualify" territory

Bangladesh to chase 115.
Australia don't really deserve to make it, but Bangladesh doing the right thing so far.

Back on after rain & enough overs for a result. Bangladesh ahead of required rate if rains again. Just don't want them to lose too many more wickets.
