If you'd posted this at the end of 2022 you'd have had far less push back.
He's still only 27 and having attended a couple of match simulations I'm confident Oliver will be back to his best sooner rather than later.
People forget, but most Melbourne supporters would have ranked Oliver our best player at the end of 2022.

Still the greatest dee of all time in my books and the best mid in the game for about a 3 year stretch. Will be interesting to see which direction his career heads in after a year out of the game essentially.

There's no doubt in my mind that if Clarry didn't have Petracca taking votes off him, he would have at least one Brownlow to his name, and Danny Boy would be far less disparaging about the award's credibility.
Oliver has another potential 5 years of his prime. He may well return to his All Australian form as early as this year. It's way too premature to assume this debate is over.

Good lord the quality of the Demons all time must be very very poor. Can you point me clearly in the direction of what 3 years you're referring to? I have serious doubts as to whether he was the best midfielder during those years, let alone if he is a better Dee than the likes of Barassi, Gawn, Norm Smith, or Garry Lyon. I mean you are right, the Demon's all time list is pretty thin, but those four are clearly better than Clarry.

All well and good but his accolades speak for themselves. If you did your research you'd know all 18 coaches had him as the best player in the league in 2021 and 2022 (tied with touk miller).
The Coaches Votes are a crap metric of determining the best player in the league. Biased by Coaches voting on their own players and rewards volume of performance over brilliance (with the 5 through 1 x2 voting system).
You're club must have had some really shit footballers if Clayton Oliver is the best of them.
Oliver wouldn't be in the top 30 players all time at Carlton.
Between 2017 and 2022, i.e. 6 seasons, Oliver was top 3 in contested possessions every single year. He was first 3 times, second once and third twice.
Between 2017 and 2022 Oliver was no.1 in the league for ground-ball gets for 5 of the 6 years. It hasn't been done before.
In this period, which started when he was a teenager, he won 4 best & fairests, including in a premiership year, and 3 All Australians.
We don't win the flag in 2021 without Oliver.

The coaches votes is by far the most credible award to win. Votes go to forwards and defenders (not just mids) and thus far coaches have been very fair with giving votes.
