All quiet from the Crow trolls on the Motlop front as Daniel forces them to eat humble pie with his magic against the Demons on Sunday.
"I just knew we needed to score and I was lucky enough to kick it."
Unlike in Launceston, Motlop did not stop after his mark to line up his shot 35m from goal at the Punt Road end of the MCG.
"I thought I was clear," said Motlop. "I thought my man had fallen over and I thought I had the goal to myself. (Melbourne ruckman) Jeff White got back."
And with a sidestep and a carefully placed kick to the goal umpire, Motlop instantly became a match hero - and justified coach Mark Williams' decision to bring the North Adelaide-based forward back to the AFL without working up time in the SANFL.
"Amazing how the wheel turns," said Williams. "This is fantastic for him."
Williams praised Motlop for taking the risk in playing on rather than measuring his match-winning kick at goal. "I'd rather see that than have my players play boring footy," said Williams. "Daniel played on a couple of times and it did not work for him, but I'm always thrilled when a player takes the game on.
"We had a lot of discussion on whether we'd bring back Daniel this week. We wanted to reward him for his effort against Fremantle when he set up the game for us and for his work at training - and he has now been justly rewarded."
Motlop left the MCG last night eager for his match-winning goal not to be wasted when Port plays bottom-ranked and winless Richmond at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.
Well done Mots!
