I think this will be an indicator of where we are as a unit

St Kilda play a lockdown style where ( I think ) Essendon play a lot more free flowing game ie shootout

This will highlight areas we are going to be good at or terrible

I hope good

Crows by under 24 points

I don’t really agree that this will be an indicator. Crows defeated Essendon last year over in Melbourne. We also beat St Kilda last week as we did last year. We LOOK better, yes, but until we defeat teams that we haven’t for a while it’s hard to see anything as a real improvement apart from the aesthetics.

It was more about our movement of the ball

I felt St Kilda blocked the game up a bit - whereas I see the Essendon side as a more free flowing one

A lot of attention on Nicks to break the MCG streak.

Also looking to Burgo. Team will strip fitter for the Rd 1 outing. If it is a free flowing game on the big MCG, who is going to be the team that runs all day? Please be us.

Burgo has had this squad for awhile now.

Tex could be subbed again.

Alternatively:

Lazy start with a heap of missed tackles

Down 4 or 5 goals early

Work in to the game

Lose late

1-1 and still nowhere

(Sorry!)
My pessimistic thoughts also. But surely we come out guns blazing....Surely
Another must win against a depleted side.

Win the game, break the hoodoo and move on.
Losing is not an option if we're serious about finals, but I have too many nightmares about games we had to win or should have won. This is a perfect barometer to show how far the list has progressed or regressed. A depleted, somewhat bogy side for us, away, and huge expectation to deal with.

Need to win if we're serious about playing finals, and a huge opportunity to break an MCG hoodoo (I REALLY hate the thread title, it's tempting fate). They're missing their best forward and defender, so there's no excuses to not get up, even if we won't necessarily be an easy win.

Important too given that we have a pretty tough run after North next week.

This game profile has certainly been the trend over last 2-3 season

We need a fast start

On paper Essendon’s mids are the biggest threat - there mids will not only need to kick goals but they will need to dominate to not expose their defence.

It’s on Dawson, Crouch, Soligo Pearling, Rankine to show up from the first bounce and play four qtrs of high standard footy

I would unleash Draper today on the G - the ground [emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]] suits his game

He full find space and use his pace

The G also suits Cumming game - looking forward to watching his game today

Those wins were after the season was over. A win today won’t tell us we are good - I agree. But a loss - means we almost definitely won’t play finals. At a minimum we need to be 3-1 after first 4 rounds. And Bombers at the G with some injuries when we have none is an easier game than Gold Coast away.

An absolute must win

I read some where we have lost our last 14 first quarters in Vic?
