Twomey, The Age, Herald Sun (VIC) are all running with the same top 12 picks.

Would seem to imply either;

1. Word has firmed up and clubs are seemingly aligned with which players are being picked where.

2. They have NFI and all are just coping Twomey
No one had us taking Curtin last year.

North should take an elite player at pick 2 then trade one of their other mids for a tall later
When/if they bring in live trading of players...the draft will truly be worth watching.

eg. North take FOS then trade him to Richmond for Jobe Shanahan and pick 18 with a sliding Armstrong still on the board.

Cal does have good intelligence with the list managers and recuiters around the country. If he rings Hamish O, he will pick up and chat to him. The other thing is all clubs do alot of intel into who the other clubs are into
Richmond don't have an issue telling Cal they are taking Lalor at one, as North, Carlton and the Crows don't care at their picks, as none have multiple in that range, and there's no secret strategy to be had by keeping it quiet.
They know the place Cals phantom draft plays in the draft season, and they are happy to help him out a bit with it.

Don't mind Langford. 191cm and still growing.

I am not an expert - but thats my hope.
I love Langford too could easily be the next Bontempelli but could also be the next Collier-Dawkins.

Seems like just the other year everyone was like we need Finn Callaghan and now here comes Langford who is quite similar and people saw his 20m sprint time and have completed rejected all his other great attributes. We're talking fractions of second between loving this player and not wanting anything to do with him which is insane.

My issue with these taller mids is that it's similar to the man child forwards you see every year who manage to mark and kick goals because they are so much more developed than the other kids. Having a 194cm mid up against 180cm ones gives them a physical advantage that they will not have in the AFL.
For me when I see Langford, and Smilie, it smacks a bit of that

I'm glad someone else has seen the resemblance to Callaghan. There was was stony silence/shock when I mentioned this a while ago.

I see that with Smillie, but not Langford.

Its an extremely valid point. Thats why the recruiters get paid the big bucks (and are actually not that good at what they do).

The challenge is whether a players elite characteristic are good enough at AFL level.

I remember a certain draft expert fawning over Chayce Jones because he was performing against grown men in Tasmania. That same poster loved Ned as well. Both lacked elite qualities at AFL level.

I think of the majority of smaller elite AFL footballers. Unless they are a small forward - they are usually taken much later in the draft - Laird, Neale, Daniel, Zorko, etc.

I pick number 2

The AFL went through its giant mid phase, where every team wanted a 195cm midfielder like Bont or Cripps. Alot of taller mids then got drafted higher than their talent dictated they should be.
Look at us with Edwards last year. Would you rather him or Soligo?
Then, in a world where every mid is 190+cm, along comes some 175cm ones that are quick and agile, and no taller mid will be able to tackle them without giving away a free.

With Chayse Jones, Hamish let his Tasmanian bias show through there, and Ned got full points on the good guy test.

agree we are already covered for 'tall mid' even if its a thing any more. Curtin, Edwards and Dawson

Werent Neale and Ashcroft one and two for the Norm Smith last year..

Once again - these smaller successful mids seem to come from lower draft positions - Soligo/Neale/Laird - etc.

At the top of the draft you either need to go for the absolute locks (Ashcroft, Daicos, JHF) or the ones with massive physical upside - Cripps, Bont, LDU.

Maybe so. I'm not saying he's as good, but he plays like Callaghan, and the loping gait and swinging onto the left for long, probing kicks looks very similar to me.
Do we need a taller player with a loping gait or express pace?

Will be SO disappointed if we miss Draper here

Everyone is fixated on this lack of pace deal, he has so many other strings to his bow.

Like Draper, who might not be the best kick in the draft but he can do a lot of things others cant.

i do get it and all have different pros and cons

I just remember Sid being a potential number one at the start of the year and us all salivating about trying to get him. Now in 4-5 hours time we may well MISS him by ONE PICK (my guess)

Its the SA factor and retention (not only likely longevity but not needing to pay overs to interstaters like we did for Sloane and Talia for their careers). Plus Crows fan. Plus Captain material. Plus...most suits our midfield as we have accumulators already

Just my preference and perhaps he doesnt end up in the top 3-4 of the draft but he is THE one I 100% want tonight

I think it will be Draper.

Either way everything will go as we had planned, We will get our man who will be a jet/ gun and we will be shocked whoever we take was still available at our pick.

17 other clubs will say the same.
And we'll all say future 200 gamer could see him win a Brownlow someday after we select him only for in 6 years time the real star of the draft was taken a few picks after we selected and the guy we took will be a yo-yo between AFL and SANFL type player.

Sid might not win a Brownlow (very few do) but he'll do just fine.

Would be interesting, getting other clubs to pick up a player for you.
