ODI CWC 2023 Qualification Tournament

Whilst I like that this competition is competitive, I hate to think that because there are no stand up teams that the ICC don't think it's worth expanding the WC too much

Next WC is in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia and will have 14 teams

Given the Dutch are missing a lot of first choice players due to County Cricket, they’ve been doing pretty well all tournament. Hope they get up here, but seen associates get into the sort of position against full members before, only for the full member to come out on top

Yeah, I know. And I am all for it.
It just justifies keeping the WC small

You could argue the top associate teams are more competitive against the bottom 6 full member nations (SL, WI, Ban, Afg, Zim, Ire) than those bottom 6 full member nations are against the top 6 full member nations.

2019 CWC was a pretty good tournament, too.

People s**t on 50 over cricket all the time but I reckon when it's in a tournament that means something, it's bloody good to watch.
2019 finished with some outright classics. From memory, the league phase was pretty lacklustre until a very late upset added some life.

I presume it goes towards the ranking system. Afterall Ireland is currently playing USA in a playoff match
Assume ranking is important. But we have to remember this eyars world cup is a round robin world cup, so the top 2 teams here, will face each other in World Cup as well.

Stupid question why do we need a Grand Final, given that both of the teams in the Grand Final will make the World Cup?
Its very much secondary, but a trophy and some prize money. It seems odd to have a tournament without a winner, even if that's not the big prize. But for SL or WI, it would hardly take prime position among the trophies.
The super league system, is getting ditched, but it might also impact whose games count as "ODIs" officially after the WC during the next cycle?

The playoff would count to the rankings presumably, but as much as anything its a chance for some teams that don't get much cricket to have an extra game or two. They are already in the country, its presumably not that expensive to hold an extra couple of games.
